I should be online right after patch goes live so if you or anybody else @ Moogle is worried about their valuable crops and have no other way of sorting this out I can offer some tending help (as long as it will be not the whole server).

I myself calculated that my onions will not have enough time to get ready before maintenance and I wanted to have a free garden just in case they added something new. Managed to harvest my experimental gysahl greens at the last moment before I had to log off. Must have been really nervewracking to have expensive plants during maintenance...

I have a question, using Mimett Gourd x Glazenut as example.

Mimett X Glaze can give either Apricot or Onions, but it's an one side cross, the planner guide of ffxivcrafting says the optimal planting is

    M G M
    G X G
    M G M

Mimmet being the one that gives onion/apricot.

But wouldn't it be more efficient to do

    G M G
    M x M
    G M G

So I get up to 4 seeds instead of 3?

Well - it's the same just "rotated" 45 degrees. You can also start planting at second bed instead of first one to achieve the same result. Anyway - this is only relevant if you'd start with empty garden patch, once you have the loop running you'll replace the seeds in steps to asure that you're always planting next to something. Finally if you starting with empty patch you can always start planting with "cheaper" seed and "trash" soil and when all 8 seeds are planted remove first one and re-plant it again in better soil to assure cross breading for the "first" seed as well.

In that Mimmet x Glazenut cross, the Glazenuts will also produce onions or apricots.

As HEC said, both of your examples are the exact same. All that is important is to remember that breeding happens the moment you place the seed so if the patch is empty the first seed you plant has absolutely no chance to breed. This is also why it is best to plant clockwise/counterclockwise (the starting position does not matter) to ensure that each seed after the first is next to something else.

Hi, can you please share the link to that guide? I checked out that site just now and it seems great, but I can't find gardening section.

Oh! Thank you very much. I'll bookmark them both, seem extremely useful. I want to start gardening so I'll need to read a lot.
