Used grade 3 Thanalan since thats what I hoarded. If I want to loop the broombush would I plant it in grade 3 shroud and neighboring plants in Thanalan 3 of course?

Soil only affects the seed that was planted with it.
So Shroud soil increases the yield of the seed planted with it (where applicable), and Thanalan soil increases the chance that the seed planted with it will crossbreed with one of the plants next to it. Top-tier plants like Broombush will only yield 1 regardless of soil used, so between that and your goal of looping it, you'll want to plant it with Thanalan soil.

From what you said, your garden currently looks like

Broombush + Almond = Broombush seeds
so you'll want to plant that broom using Thanalan soil next to the almond at the bottom. And then maybe another almond in the bottom left with Thanalan soil; having it cross with either the gerbera or the broom will give you another broombush seed in case you're unlucky, since crossbreeding even with G3 Thanalan soil isn't guaranteed.

I ended up getting mandrake seeds from the last almond so I planted leaving room for friend to grow plums he needs + possible minion he wants. Gardening has been interesting and a fun diversion lately. Also just ended up yanking the krakkas, pretty sure I was just going to get roots.

So I'm going to possibly plump down a lot of FC money to finally crack the thavairian onion.

I have the sylkis bud seeds already, x7 of them, the only successful cross breed that yielded predicted results. it took 3 yields worth of plants to get those. (admittedly using grade 1 soil)

Anyways, So buying grade 3 thanalan soil and buying the royal kukuru seeds.

will I be right in planting

and how should I plant? alternating between sylkis > kukuru and work my way around from bed 1 > 2 and so on.

can't really afford this to go wrong so any advice on maximizing thav' onion seed chance will be awesome.

As I understand it basically start planting clockwise.Also 1st planted crop won't yield any crosses. I been browsing the thread and using this for reference at times : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...any=true#gid=0

Clockwise/counterclockwise or whatever doesn't matter. Just make sure whatever you plant is next to something and it will have a chance to crossbreed. Going clockwise or counterclockwise is just the easiest way to ensure that this is the case.

Pearl Roselle + Mimett Gourd = Thavnairian Onion Seeds

But it's not 100%, I've also obtained Shroud Tea Leaves Seeds with this.

Good find! Now Pearl Roselle seeds aren't so bad to get anymore.

If history any indication, any other tier 2 chocobo seed should be interchangeable with Mimett Gourd (Curiel, Tantalplant, etc.) for getting Thav Onion seeds.

Isn't krakka Tier 2 and Mimett(and the others) Tier 3?
