    idk man, my FC mates, who have never played 1.0, had (or still have) zero knowledge about the musketeer guild and only know about the gunner job from the live letter also thought they were teasing the gunner job, due to the blatantly obvious emphasis they put on her guns in the cutscenes, same goes for several LS friends.

    I'm not sure why you're saying "look at Merlwyb" when she's also a tease, much like Yugiri and Thancred were a tease of the rogues and ninjas in that fighting cutscene.

    I feel like it's more of you do know it's a tease, but you don't want to believe it.

    Then, 1.0 failed, and ARR's development started. I don't know exactly why they left the blazon as they ignored the gun class when 2.0 came (introducing arcanist instead), but for Merlwyb, they just couldn't remove her from the game for obvious reasons (they could have killed her at Carteneau but they didn't), so yeah she's still using a gun. The other various NPCs using a gun so far have been pirates, because iconic pirate outfit includes a gun and a sword.

    Then comes an officer from the yellowjackets, using a gun. In my opinion (read it as my own conclusions) it's just an other reference to the origins of Limsa. Yeah she's using a gun, but so is Merlwyb and Merlwyb isn't teasing gun job anymore. If you remember, Ninja came 6 month after yugiri's tease. 4 years of waiting for 1.0 players isn't a tease. It's just people desperately wanting to see a tease.

    Again, I could be wrong. But many hints tend to show that the gunner job won't be the musketeer people want it to be.

    Merlwyb didn't show up until after Yoshida took over. She was introduced along Raubhan and Kan E Senna to take over the grand companies for the three starting nations. There's a reason they made articles about them when grand companies were implemented, which was also after Yoshida took over.

    Considering the only allusion to the musketeer guild prior to that was the head of the yellowjackets showing up during a lv15 quest, it's odd they sort of vanish and now you have a reminder that they exist in the rogue storyline. Milala aside, one of the quests did involve the recovery of muskets for the yellowjackets. This could have been ANYTHING else but they chose to have it be muskets for the yellowjackets. Much like how the treaty blade from the Hildibrand quests was a greatsword, and sometime after we got DRK.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
