Like I said the only person who this mass pull stuff is fun for is the healerHave you ever wondered why Qarn Hard has locking doors that you need an item to open? Or why in Sastasha Hard has doors that require you to kill all of the monsters in the room to progress, or why Hullbreaker has a big drop after the second boss? Pretty much all of the dungeons after the first set are riddled with mechanics to slow down speed runs and reduce bulk pulling like this.
On the other hand, as a healer, I actually quite like the challenge. I asked my tank to pull all the way from the second boss to the last boss in Toto-rak Hard a while ago. That was quite fun, if one of the more stressful minute in recent memory. It's a question of awareness and intuition. The tank should always be calibrating his or her expectations to the current party.
Imo the simple answer is to make mobs hit harder at higher levels. The reason why mass pull is so popular is cos tanks can take the hits. Simple make the mobs auto attacks hit harder. End of mass pull. keep the damage on boss adds the same but increase the damage on trash adds
I generally look at the gear of my teammates to see how big of a group of mobs I should be pulling. If you're well geared with some second coil gear, I trust that you can handle it. If you're a full ST/soldiery or half soldiery, I don't really trust you (this goes double for healers).
This sounds amazing. and I wish all tanks did this. however what really happens is as soon as the doors open the tank goes charging into the mobs and runs past then to the next pack. He doesn't care if you can handle it. It's like being chained to a raging bull and having to clean up his mess as soon as he makes it.I generally look at the gear of my teammates to see how big of a group of mobs I should be pulling. What's even better is they don't even wait for you to finish a pack once they got bored of one pack they're off to the next
I don't really blame them, honestly. It's super annoying to go through a dungeon and spend, for example, 5 minutes on 3 mobs, then 5 minutes on the next pack of 3, where you can just spend 5 minutes on 6 mobs after you group them together. Dungeons are already long enough, especially with SE making sure you can't speedrun anymore like Brayflox. This sounds amazing. and I wish all tanks did this. however what really happens is as soon as the doors open the tank goes charging into the mobs and runs past then to the next pack. Yup, I find aoe spam horribly boring. Unless I'm a BLM, then it feels good. On SMN I hate large pulls because I can't bane my dots to more than 3 targets, and on BRD and NIN I hate them because it means I'll be spamming pretty much 1 button until it's over.
I'll check out the gear of the party, do a medium size pull at first to see how they handle it and gauge from there how I will handle the rest of the dungeon. In the newer ones this isn't as much of an issue since they gated sections behind mobs. Either way tanks get yelled at for pulling too big and the group cant handle it and its a wipe. They pull too small and party is in a hurry to do a speed run and are bored.
Thank you for saying this. I was waiting for someone to bring this up.I don't really blame them, honestly. Actually this line of thinking is wrong. The times sololy depend on your group make up. I.e if you have 2BLMs in your group yes your correct.
However if you have 2 monks or 2 ninjas in your group then guess what. you will spend 1 min on each group of mob not 5. Why cos we do more dps single target . However if you mass pull we're so slow at it and run out of tp that it actually takes 6mins to kill the mobs where as if you took them in packs of 3 you would have done it in 2 mins.
don't bite of more than your group can chew.
out of the 100s of dungeons I've done and apart from main scenario dungeons I've never seen a tank get yelled out for pulling normal size.I'll check out the gear of the party, do a medium size pull at first to see how they handle it and gauge from there how I will handle the rest of the dungeon. And honestly you're wrong for thinking this as well, as Ninja and DRG can actually be pretty high AoE DPS in short segments. It's easy to pull 500+ DPS on Ninja when using the correct skills. The problem is most people have the same line of thinking as you, and only kill one at a time because they think they're not good enough for AoE.Thank you for saying this.
