I've already mentioned, this really has little to do with lore to begin with, but lore is just another reason why it's a terrible idea. It's an equally bad idea from a game design perspective. The player being able to automagically change intimate details about themselves on a whim really doesn't make for a good design concept or character creator, and it cheapens the idea of having a persistent character in the first place. Just because it's possible to allow a feature does not mean it's a good feature to have.
It's an MMO, and features like that don't exist in a vacuum just because its your own character. It's the same reason we can glamour swimsuits onto our Warriors but not White Mage outfits. There's a limit to what's acceptable as a gameplay feature and what's excessive from a design perspective. There IS a difference, and you guys should really quit pretending like there isn't. And even if you don't see it that way, i think FFXIV as a whole benefits from the designers seeing it that way.
"Broken for real cash" is really being stretched by you here, since Fantasia is the only thing that has such an effect, and the vast majority of traditional "lore breaking" stuff in this game is, ironically, in-game content.Originally Posted by Riepah;

1) It's bought with real cash. Something the VAST majority of subbers wont ever bother with, and i'm talking like > 95%. Especially since your second month gives you a free vial anyway.
2) You're essentially paying for the ability to re-roll your entire character. This isn't a lore feature, it's strictly for the sake of players who are so eager to change their character's appearance, they're willing to pay money to have it done. (After limitless access to the character creator, a freebie and the option for alts.)
So yeah, it's A-OK to me, you're absolutely right. It's A-OK for the opposite reason people get angry at cosmetic items being in the cash shop. It's a feature, that isn't supposed to be accessible more than once, made accessible only by out-of-game means. To the vast majority of players, it's enough of a non-option to not even be a feature.
