SCH can still stoneskin there is no reason not to do it almost no damage is going out when you are killing the egg. Do you want to take the risk of someone dying cause the game decides to hit them in the higher damage range?

interesting thing, no one had stone skin. even with stone skin, unless he was topped off, he still would have died. OP said he took 6.6k dmg. take 600 for stone skin, and still not enough.
