I don't see what you are refering, you mean retainers or party finder or something?

Tell that to the people trying to make characters to play with their friends. There is more than one angle to view this problem. Simply feeling like the server is unstable is hardly the only useful metric.

Atma, a lot more duties to pick from, dalies, gardening(if you're like me and stay logged on to fertilize your plants every hour while doing work around the house), harvesting nodes to upgrade your mainhands, fishing at the right times/weather conditions for certain catches, sightseeing log, etc. I probably missed something.

Then they can join a low pop. server instead of joining a high pop. one and adding to the wait times. If they don't want to join another server then it's their choice to wait.

If you can log in fine, then there doesn't need to be an AFK kickout timer.

You're on a PC, so it's your fault for not making use of the settings they gave you to help control what you do and don't see on your screen.

I'm completely against AFK kickouts. DPS often AFK for a bit while waiting in their 2 hour dungeon queues, I often AFK at my own house, and sometimes just tabbed out while my character just relaxes in a bed. Or when I'm not in the mood to do anything, I'll AFK for a bit, and come back every hour to assign a new venture to my retainer.

I'd rather not have the ability to do those things taken from me because someone chose to go to the most populated server, then decides they don't like the amount of people that are in 1 of the most popular end game areas.

Also, to the people thinking that an AFK kickout timer will open up more worlds to character creation, no, it wont.

I can see it now "Hey Bro, I know we are besties and all but this guy on the forum said you shouldn't be allowed to play with me because you're late to the game or something. Deal with playing alone."

Yeah, that will go over well. Come on Elim. Be realistic. Games like these grow because you play with friends or because you make friends and therefore you stick around and keep playing. Deliberately preventing people from playing with their friends would be one of the single worst road blocks for getting new players view word of mouth.

Fewer people are logged in so early and the server opens up.
"Periods of high congestion" can mean many things. Simultaneous log-ins may have something to do with it, but more likely they are talking about an average of log-in activity over time. Just because people log off for the night does not mean it's safe to open up character creation. Those people are going to come back tomorrow, and you'll be over capacity.

However, I do agree that an auto-logout feature would be a good thing. For one, it gives SE a more accurate assessment of how many people are regularly logged-in and playing. For another, it is healthier for the servers and provides a smoother experience for those of us who actually are playing and not just leaving our characters idle in a city while gone to school/work.

Baloney. You're saying you're actually waiting around for some in-game event to happen, for a matter of hours, without so much as touching your keyboard or mouse, and still paying enough attention to the game to know when that event is happening? If you have the ability to respond to what's going on in the game at all, then you have the ability to jiggle your mouse or make your character take a step forward, at least once per hour or two.
I know dungeon queues can be particularly long for DPS, but how often to you queue up, then immediately take your hands off the computer and just sit there motionless for over an hour? How do you expect to know when your dungeon pops, let alone play through one, if you can't even be bothered to click a button once every 1-2 hours?

Honestly, I feel like some of you are reacting emotionally, out of fear that "The Big, Bad Logout Monster" is going to boot you from the game while you're trying to get something done. That's not how this works. It boots you out if you've been AFK for a long time. Can you tap the W key at least once per hour? Then you have nothing to worry about.

Plus the servers aren't nearly as bad as they were when they enforced auto logouts. Needless to say, they were full to the brim and very, very unstable.
Why wait for another server-wide meltdown, to enact something that would actually be beneficial right now?

Atma, a lot more duties to pick from, dalies, gardening(if you're like me and stay logged on to fertilize your plants every hour while doing work around the house), harvesting nodes to upgrade your mainhands, fishing at the right times/weather conditions for certain catches, sightseeing log, etc. I probably missed something.
You know you are free to log back in, even if you get kicked out, right? The only thing auto-logout could even potentially affect is a Duty Finder queue, and that's only if you are actually queued for over an hour (or possibly more, depending) and you literally do not touch your keyboard or mouse at all from the moment you queued. But as I said, if you can't even hit a key once per hour just to confirm your presence and reset the AFK timer, then how on earth do you expect to actually play a duty when it pops?

They can both join another server. Either through character transfer or making a new character. I'm being realistic. Part of the reason SE locks the servers is to encourage people to join the low pop ones instead of joining a high pop one and creating more stress on it. Plus auto kick doesn't mean servers wont be locked. The more that join the more chance it'll be locked. The auto kickout was mostly for people who already created a character on the server and were having issues logging in.

You can turn the sound on to hear queue or FATE pops. Also there is the ff14 alarm clock website for nodes. You can also simply come back every hour to take care of your plants. :P So of course I can. Anyone can. Also I don't remember the exact amount of time you were giving before being auto kicked out. I think it was pretty short though.

True, but you won't have congestion without players logged in. In order for things to be congested you must by it's very nature have people logged into the server. Meaning that while it may not be the only criteria it is part of the criteria. People saying server pop doesn't affect the lockout are incorrect. The simple fact that people have far better success making new characters very early in the morning is a testament to the fact it must be part of the criteria. Otherwise it wouldn't work with such consistency.

If I've been playing for a year and I want them to join me then the answer you give is wholly inadequate. Enjoy telling your friends they can't play with you when the time comes. Just heartless.

I've been playing for about the same amount of time. Some of friends have joined my server. They choose to patiently wait for it to open. It didn't hurt them. Also I'm not sure how asking a friend to play on another server on a video game is heartless. LOL

Perhaps that was a bit hyperbolic so you're right. Seriously though I tried to get a friend of mine on Balmung for over a week. Near the end I was pleading with him to keep trying because he was getting frustrated. He had zero interest in playing on other servers since he specifically wanted to play with me. Thankfully he got in, ended up buying the game, and already paid for one month. Square almost lost that sale though. Don't underestimate people's desire to play with their friends.
