Sealants should have been your first indicator that this person is a 3 Star+ Crafter.

This kind of people have a lot of gil.
Getting to 4 star costs a lot of gil.

A rough estimate of what I had to spend to get to 4 Star crafting a few days ago netted me around 15m investment. DoL is probably a bit higher (18m?). Doing both is well within the realms of my possibilities, and I have never or will ever buy gil.

Numbers seem accurate. The likehood of said person being a Gil buyer (Specially one spending so much) is slim.

It's bot driven and Gil buying which killed the market and players taking advantage of that.

Guy buys Gil to purchase a crafter item that is set at 3.5mil

A regular person would be tired after farming 1000 crystals I got bored at 800 and did something else.

While a bot farms up 10,000 crystals and keeps farming get real.

They make money most will say hey I farm and im legit but bet you anything later down the road when the game gets old those very same people are going to end up on the ban list.

6 sealants 340k just over 2 mil if you buy other mats to make new crafting off-hands say total 2.5m get an hq sell for 5mil + now buy 12 sealants make 2 off-hands make 10 mil ... plus the new gatherer's gear, crafters hands, legs, feet, all the crafters tier 2 .. 4 star new recipe items... gil is easy to make if you took the time or have been around long enough to have leveled gatherer's and crafters....

as for RMT and money transfers... just look at all their /tells and spam messages they send the gil to you through the mail... its not hard to figure out who to ban and who is buying gil and i hope they all get banned for it!!! someone transfers 5-20 million through the mail its not hard to put 2 and 2 together LMAO

    IMO the gil spent for sealants was not really odd... same thing happens on det/cri material4 for novus very often. ^^;
But I think most 3star crafters will only use self-crafted gear...

16 mil isn't a strange number. I'm not a big crafter but do the occasional crafting and selling. You can easily, very easily make 150K a day with normal crafts. You can imagine how the real crafters do business.. Selling runs is even faster gil.

However, OP has a point. Sometimes you just know people buy gil. Unfortunately there are lots of them and SE will not permaban them. They can just scan everyone's gil (just like they did to come up with housing prices) and investigate the suspicious activities. If they have to ban 20 people every month, well, that's not worth the subsription loss for them. Sounds harsh, but it's all about the Benjamins.

Okay, making gil as crafter is easy. But what about people who don't have ANY crafting or gathering classes leveled, or even unlocked and still buy things worth 10m+?
Don't tell me they earned it legitly.

you don't need super awesome craft to earn gil, all you need is to be able to make some gear to yourself and earn gil from there (depend on what you are after)

What I try to say is you only need craft to lvl 50 to make your own item or if you absolute DON'T play craft, you can still earn gil but less because you have to buy the gear

And yes, I am telling you it is possible

Price of Acc+ and Crit+ IV Materia, for example, as well as Coil mats are still high enough, on Excal at least, the last time I checked. All of which are just pure grind. Selling runs & drops might also be a way for them to earn Gil. Playing the market (buy low - sell high) as well....

Just saying that it's still very much possible. Thing to remember is, it's not like a big chunk of players is making that much or buying 10+ mil worth of items from the market. It's usually a handful of people who have no life have the time to spend on actively grinding Gil in ways that don't involve gathering or crafting.

Some of them could be Gil buyers, sure. Just no use pointing the finger at everyone who does better than the rest of us.

Heck, I was able to make nice earnings by buying furniture pre-patch for 1k-10k and selling for 100k-150k when the patch went live. Pair that with a few lucky 500-600k IV Materias.... And I was doing it just casually, cause lazy to get more invested in it.

And how do you know that the character isn't an alt? Plenty of people have maxed characters and start on a new one to pass the time, or have two different characters leveled up to work around the weekly lockout on new raids.

Check MB for items are sell by NPC, buy items from NPC, put it on MB.
Lazy buyers will buy your mats more expensive than the NPC.
