How would you break it to someone that their DPS is awful?

Giving out constructive criticism is always difficult. With random people I won't say anything unless we can't beat the content due to a dps check. If it is a person I know I'll vary the approach based on their personality. Being direct works for some people but not for others. Imagine their most probably reaction to different ways of informing them and pick the one you feel best. Tell them one on one (not openly in a group) and not in the middle of a run unless you need too. At least those two things help when working with someone who might be a bit more sensitive to the criticism.

100 and? A i115 player deals a FUCKTON more dmg than an i102...

They are above i100, so that's a given

Warrior tanks can do a pretty good dmg AFAIK. Can you post the iLvls of the player in question, the other DPSses and the tank?

Your questions are not pertinent to the issue. The issue was not that they were performing poorly relative to the other DPS. The issue was that they were underperforming given their gear (The comparison to the tank was just to highlight the matter), and that I was unsure of how to approach them about the matter.

I will probably contact the person later. Hopefully the response is favourable. They are generally pleasant to have around, good at their other job (tanking), and I personally have no desire to replace them over something that can be improved upon easily.

Well T9 is not a weekly lock-out anymore so he can bring his main until you guys clear T9. If you want to band-aid the problem to get into FCoB.

Nah, I'm done with this thread. I've gotten a decent amount of opinions from it already, so I don't feel the need to give out any more information.

Got ya. Really the best way I could see to do it would be to find a player who plays the same class (and does good dps) and say "hey Soandso has a new rotation that is putting out some really nice numbers you should hit him up about it"

Most dps classes have very simple rotations so unless hes a monk/drg/or nin optimizing his dps should be a pretty short conversation. Things get complicated with melee due to weaving combos so if hes not completing combos there is really no nice way to say "wth dude"
