    We don't need flying mounts in the current state of the game. However, we won't be able to use flying mounts in the current zones either, when they release flying mounts in 3.0.

    Yoshida said that the flying mounts would only be usable in the new zones, and that we will actually need to use those flying mounts to play the game. The story quest will require the use of flying mounts and we will need to use them to explore zones too. The new content and zones would integrate the usage of flying mounts instead of just being an add-on of convenience like in WoW.
