You should try using the terminology provided by the company that makes the game, thanks.Going off-topic to respond to off-topic, but may I just ask why all of a sudden in every single thread there is someone complaining about people using the wrong acronym for gladiator? GLD seems very approporiate, I would rather call a goldsmith by GSM.
Just trolling or could you at least provide the correct acronym by your standards?
I prefer using the in-game standard set by SE and I've never really taken the time to realize what that was until now so thank you for helping me with that. I for one will use GLA from now on, I just feel like all these people trying to be funny could also be a little helpful at the same time and let the person they target know what the correct acronym is.
My complaint isnt directly at SE its how they balance things which makes a way that locks out people from them. You need 3 healers and a tank (from my experience, but maybe some people are really awesome and can do it with 2 healers). The 4 remaining slots can be anything really. It's not SE's fault if some raid organizer is misinformed or a jerk and won't accept melee DPS even though they work fine. Try learning the encounter before you cry that melee DPS doesn't work on it. By "try" I mean, go into it knowing it's possible and don't give up just because you can't faceroll it. It took us about a dozen failed encounters but we didn't have to resort to class stacking or terrain exploiting to beat it.
Example it took me ages to do the seed crystal fight for ACP in 11 because I only had DRG and SCH leveled at that time so no one wanted to invite me, everyone knew it can work with a melee DD in the group but I couldnt attack the crystal because I would get raped by aoes and other jobs were better at killing the clones because they could self heal better like blu so they were prefered.
This is how the community acts when every shout for somthing asks for arc con gld, yes there are other ways but they are less efficiant because of the AOEs, so people want to do things the most efficiant way.
Unfortunately I do see your issue here. It has happened in other MMO's before (only X-class to enter blah blah. you're Y-class so sod off). If you feel it is something that will plague the game then take it up as a challenge. Do what you can to make something more enjoyable, to remove the "formula" and allow a bit more free play.Well tell that to everyone who says ARC CON GLD only the fact is if the community think its the best way to do somthing it will stick for the life of the game, take Kirin that was a kite fight for anyone on XI who didnt have a zerg setup for their linkshell, most of CoP was job specific Diabolos for one if you didnt have pld, whm, or a stun job you were pretty much out.
The fact is that if the community says how things should be done they stick, lets not forget SE intended NIN to be a DD initially but the community saw that it could tank really well so it was a tank job, you couldnt take a DD NIN setup to anything because according to the community NIN was a tank.
This will end up ARC, CON, GLD for the entire life of the game unless SE does somthing.
Already Demacia has proven it can be done, and thats fantastic
Although if you wish to change the "formula" aspect of this particular game, i suggest acting asap. The longer you let it run it's course, the harder it will be to change. I endevour to change this also. So with luck we will succeed.

It's not a matter of efficiency, it's a matter of people's willingness to learn the encounter. If you know the encounter, you can use melee just fine. Yes, if you don't know the encounter well enough, you can possibly win with a stacked class composition. Yes, that's an imbalance, but it doesn't prevent good players from using melee DPS classes. If you're a good player on a melee DPS class, then find like-minded players and learn the encounter together. A lot of people are still attempting or have beaten ogre cleanly and "efficiently" without class stacking or terrain exploiting.
This isnt about people not knowing the encounter its that word gets around that theres one way to do somthing and it sticks, other ways either dont get around as well as the first or people ignore them saying thats the wrong way to do it. 11 was full of job specific missions and fights not because other jobs couldnt do it, but because they werent as good or AOEs will rape them which is the common consensus for alot of the playerbase for ogre. It's not a matter of efficiency, it's a matter of people's willingness to learn the encounter. If somthing becomes common knowladge it will stick in the community and damage the game
CAN YOU STUN THE AOE? If so then I don't see the problem.
