FFX doesnt have classes. ¿Anyone doubts Khimari is a Blue Mage? FFVII doesnt have classes. ¿Anyone doubts Cid is a Dragoon? ¿Yuffie is a ninja? ¿Tifa a monk? FFIX doesnt have classes... So Vivi isn`t a black mage then, and Zidane isn`t a thief, kay.

You dont have to add a "title" under the character names, FF characters always fit one class archetype more than others by pure correlation of skills/stats/performance. Leon was a DRK, and his best weapon was a spear, shocking.

None of that applies to FFII since in that game EVERY character could use ANY weapon/magic.

It's also hilarious that you even mention how Leon's best weapon was a spear (well, not in the original game) but then completely skim over how Dark Knights aren't even associated with spears. And you also completely ignore how the original Dragoon didn't even come with spears leveled.

You're only cherrypicking arguments and completely ignoring what doesn't suit you.

Personally I expected it to be a tanking class and I am not at all disappointed in being right about it. I am hoping it will have regenerative abilities (minor not major so not to off balance current healing classes too much) alongside health sacrifice to benefit either itself or the party in some way plus few nice enemy debuff skills alongside high HP and amour, some epic amazing looking 2H weapons too. If had all that I would be extremely happy with it but even if does not meet all those criteria, a DRK being a tank class is the first time I actually desired to play as a tanking class and I doubt I am alone in that so SE made a smart move with this despite some people just making assumptions about what role will play prior to being announced for FF14 and turning out incorrect.

1 DPS skill is proof of a class being a DPS. Okno, Cyan is one of the best DPS classes and is a Samurai, ok, thats one... Now, look for the samurai class all over.

In fact, Samurai class actually doesnt fit in neither, DPS or Tank roles, is more of a very balanced class, usually has more evasion than vitality, usually has good DPS but no one near pure DPS classes and also has support skills, even movement skills. And is really uncommon, actually really few characters in FFs fit in the samurai role since it is more a jack-of-all-trades class, Cyan and Auron are both "samurai" and they are very diferent.

Okay, I must be a little more clearly appear. My point is: The definition of a job may change over time. Samurai was a defender in XI, despite he was an obvious DPS in his first appearances.

Who cares if the Dark Knight is a tank? There are plenty of examples out there for HP-absorbing and sacrificing tanks and so he still fits very well into the scheme. I mean, who cares, apart from those who want to see in XIV only a graphics update to XI.

How NO ONE saw the DRK being a tank is pretty mind blowing. Yoshi said in a live letter that we would see a tank, dps and healer in the xpac. Seeing as they added NIN in 2.0(melee dps) the dps added in the xpac is most likely going to be ranged.

In Final Fantasy XI, BRD was a pure support class. They would not attack, nor would they deal any damage. They were simply there to play songs over and over again - or in earlier years, they were there to pull mobs + support their group with advancing march, mage's ballad, etc.
