Seriously, people need to get over FFXI. Final Fantasy XI was my first MMO, and I loved it beyond measure. However, this is a totally different game. We're going to keep seeing huge differences between the two games as FFXIV continues to grow.

For all the people arguing over Dark Knight's legacy and what not the real reason the class is a tank has somehow gone ignored. Tanks are unplayed and people were excited to play DRK, this is their way of trying to draw people to an underplayed role just like tanks getting exclusive mounts was.
...and it is working, I never wanted to play as a tank using PLD or WAR but as a DRK I am for the first time interested in playing as a tanking class and benefits the entire community which is very much lacking in tankers. For all the people arguing over Dark Knight's legacy and what not the real reason the class is a tank has somehow gone ignored. You're becoming hysterical over nothing lol.Says the guy who thinks Cecil is the first DRK. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
FFII, III, Tactics, X-2, XI and serveral side titles with other naming conventions for the same class, all, are DRK DPS classes. While, he defends on Cecil, which also was more DPS inclined than a tank. LOL.
The tradition is that DRK are HP trade DPS classes. Get over it. DRK as a tank goes against FF history.
Like no one else on here is acting up as bad as you are lol.
Over the makers of this game decide to a bit differently in THEIR GAME.
I'm sorry but this whole topic is funny. xDDDD

Personally I expected it to be a tanking class and I am not at all disappointed in being right about it. I am hoping it will have regenerative abilities (minor not major so not to off balance current healing classes too much) alongside health sacrifice to benefit either itself or the party in some way plus few nice enemy debuff skills alongside high HP and amour, some epic amazing looking 2H weapons too. If had all that I would be extremely happy with it but even if does not meet all those criteria, a DRK being a tank class is the first time I actually desired to play as a tanking class and I doubt I am alone in that so SE made a smart move with this despite some people just making assumptions about what role will play prior to being announced for FF14 and turning out incorrect.
How NO ONE saw the DRK being a tank is pretty mind blowing. Yoshi said in a live letter that we would see a tank, dps and healer in the xpac. Seeing as they added NIN in 2.0(melee dps) the dps added in the xpac is most likely going to be ranged.

This talk of "FF Tradition" is entertaining. Have any non-sequel FF games included carbon copies of anything from its predecessors? Do they not borrow and tweak instead?
Since its one of my favorites, I do like how most everyone seems to be using FF4 as the definitive tradition setter in this case, though. Was Cecil a tank when he was a dark knight, or did he only tank when finished his trial? Y'all all know the truth is he tanked as both. It wasn't Rydia or Tellah standing front line to Octomammoth's attacks in the Underground Waterway.
But FF4 (and FFT, FFX, etc.) don't define FFXIV. After all, Octomammoth is now a mostly harmless squid. Not to mention, our White Mages can't use bows.
And yet, we still have White Mages. Some "traditions" change.
So what if DRK's tank for us? I am confident that our Dark Knight will still have plenty of Darkish Knightly stuff to define itself with, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. :3

Guys guys...... this is FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN, stop compairing this universe to XI or some other FF game thats come out. Its lore is its own I don't understand why people need to cry over design choices that will clearly make sense lore wise in the game....

My rage, and disappointment... Knows no bounds.
I'm just mostly excited that tanks will finally get a small taste of what kind of wait DPS have for dungeon que's since it seems like there will be quite a lot of people leveling it upon release. As for doing away with classes, I don't see them doing away with them, maybe with ROG they've released all the base classes and will start adding more jobs per class. Just my two cents though.![]()
