Might want to replay FFIV if you think that's a fact.

Cecil had more health and more defense than Kain ever did. Even as DRK. As DRK, he would use damage and would sacrifice himself to destroy the enemy before it harmed users; very tank like aspects.

The only reason that people don't associate DRK with a tank role is because FFXI skewed it with massive damage, which, originally, had tank like properties itself.

Slapping a shield on a character doesn't automatically make them tanks. Just look at classic D&D and the Warlord class for example. They are leaders that control battlefield. But they're not tanks.

People need to stop associating shields with tanks. Warriors are the prime example where tanks can live with damage and health pools (Hell, just look at 2.0's original warrior for a prime example.)

Just look at this progression: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Final_F..._IV/Characters

Cecil at level 10 has more strength and vitality, less dexterity, which makes sense.

Kain at level 10 has less strength, more dex, less vitality. His armor value is also lower. The description also states that Cecil has great attack power and defensive abilities but levels slowly.

So no, Cecil was a tank whether he was a DRK or a PLD. People relate darkness and health drain attacks as non tankish and don't look behind the reasoning of the attack. The attack Dark itself sacrifices health to deal massive damage. Hell, if you think about it, it's more tankish than Kain's flimsy "OH *#&% GET OUTTA DODGE!!!" jump.

Yeah 2.0 Warrior the class that was so trash that they had to re-work the entire job to be more PLD-like in terms of cooldowns so that it could even be accepted in Coil as a viable option. Great example.

I am glad it is a tank class, whine all you want but this game needs more tanks and DRK is a heavy armour style job which suits tanking just fine as opposed to such silly things as someone mentioned earlier about how they thought ninja would be a better suited tank...erm no ninja would never be suited for tanking from a common sense perspective they are supposed to be stealthy not in the front lines taking all the hits for everyone else.

It's way too early to jump on this silly hate bandwagon when so little is known about it's abilities and such especially just because you wanted it to be a DPS among the overly saturated amount of DPS classes already present in game. People who wanted it to be a DPS class can go cry me a river, I am glad it is filling a much needed tank option and for once I am actually thinking about playing a tank class because DRK is one.

Its becoming painfully obvious that our friend simply has very warped memories of FF or hasn't fully played them all.

Samurai's main feature was gil toss, and it was /also/ tanky, and depending on its incarnation it has cover, 2hand(for1hand weapon damage increase), and so on. Its usually walked the fine line between tank and dps, and could easily be either. Good on you for actually remembering most of these things.

So what If they make Dark Knight a Tank? This is FFXIV, not FFXI. Get over it.

The original Drk in Final Fantasy was a tank.

Many MMO have drain/endrain tanks, Lineage II's best tank was basically a Dark Knight. I'm fully confident they will make drk work just fine.
Lol as soon as I saw it, I knew the crying would start on the forums and won't stop for a long time.

There's more kicking and screaming here than in a whole room full of Gremlins.
