i'd love to see idiots pay for it just to belong to some "secret club" while we had all the stuff handed out for free. SE SHOULD bank on people like that, it's fantastic. no effort but all the reward.
You think people that buy cosmetics feel like they're in some secret club? Most people that buy the stuff just want a different look than what they have been staring at for days/ months.
i would also like to live in a place where i've forgotten about the rabid newcomers screaming at the top of their lungs cause they couldn't have a legacy account or a goobbue mount.
also, read the fucking quotes to get some context. they're talking about legacy rewards. not general cosmetics.
There are some things I am not willing to compromise about, and believe me, they are very, very few. I play on PS3 so I know a thing or two about letting things slide even though I pay the same sub as PS4/PC users (and I'm an EU player on top of it). Truly, the only things they had to do to keep me paying were: 1) keep it casual, without excessive grinding or difficulty and 2) same content for everyone, no cash shop exclusive. That was literally it. I was happy about everything else, but these two things to me completely ruin my gaming experience, it's not something I can get over or ignore. Honestly I doubt I'm the only one who has a certain line FFXIV/SE must not cross.I totally understand having a general idea, or checklist of things you want in a game to make it 'good' in your mind. What's really mind-boggling, is that somehow, out of that list you're talking about, one item is literally so big of a deal that it invalidates the ENTIRE experience, or reason for having it.
I enjoyed this game but I can enjoy other games just as much. I am not trying to condemn SE, or wishing doom on FFXIV, not at all- but I'm not gonna sit here and accept whatever SE throws at me either.
This isn't my way of thinking at all. But that within reason? It just so happens that exclusive content on a cash shop is one of the two things that's not."You aren't allowed to make one business decision that I don't like, or one mistake!" (Within reason, of course)
I've been in these forums since ARR started and I hardly saw anyone complaining, if any. :l Pretty sure you're referring to a select few.i would also like to live in a place where i've forgotten about the rabid newcomers screaming at the top of their lungs cause they couldn't have a legacy account or a goobbue mount.

Also, no need to be so hostile to them, yeesh.
Really? Eh, my bad then. I guess I just never noticed or I'm forgetting. Not to sound like I'm condoning any sort of hostility, but I do remember back in the beta forums there was a lot of very antagonistic debates over legacy. Still, I agree with your post. We should have constructive criticism here. Agree or disagree, venting or not, forums are a place to converse and debate. Not just be mean towards each other.

um, i saw lots and lots of complaining about legacy status and goodies. Maybe it was right before ARR and with it's release it got washed away with new topics, but there were definitely heated debates.
First things first, I am not a legacy player.
I did not play this game because when I tried FF11 it was not group friendly for me and my friends.
I checked back at FF14, reviews said it sucked and give it a year.
A year later, they overhauled the game.
Now it's a much better game and worth playing.
I believe Legacy players that stuck with crap for a year to help keep S.E. going deserve the few little cosmetics they get for it.
I wouldn't have paid what they did for this game and the sub (which was higher).
The idea of seeing some newbie with a leaf over their head riding a legacy chocobo is rather disturbing to me.
If I was a legacy player, I'd be fuming pissed.
Perspective:
A legacy player because of loyalty paid roughly $200~ in subscription costs while playing a game that was awful for an entire year in addition to paying two to four times more for the game.
Now people who did not have this loyalty and spent that year playing other, much better at the time games gave someone else their money.
As a reward for their loyalty and money, they got a few cosmetics that have no value other than to say "I played this game when it sucked!".
Now, what they paid hundreds for and devoted a great deal of time with their loyalty a new player fresh off a $12.50 steam promo can pick up that same reward for $5.
To me that would be like the white house selling a real "Congressional Medal of Honor" at the gift shop with a photo of you and the president for $50.
Edit: Maybe the Medal of Honor is a little too dramatic.
A closer comparison would have to be the "Purple Heart".
Since playing 1.0 was like taking a bullet for S.E. and now they're giving the same medal to those who don't have the scars legacy players have.

Won't happen because you can only get a mount when you unlock the GC chocobo. And that's past lvl 20, when you can't use the leaf status anymore.
On another note, even if they did allow you ride mounts, it's not indicative if someone with the leaf riding a legacy chocobo 'bought' their chocobo, because the legacy chocobo is account-bound. Meaning any characters created on that account will have the legacy chocobo by default.
I completely agree. We should be allowed as consumers to ask and even challenge some of the decisions that any company makes. Whenever a business begins to charge extra for something that once was freed, I certainly don't just say oh ok.
MMO's offer a unique opportunity through in that we're able to suggest different options.
