Really hope not going to Guild Wars 2 route... that MMO has been utter boring, everything runs off on cashshop, no point of farming or runs. Partially pay to win convenient items and services.
Really hope not going to Ragnarok Online 2 route..pay to win.
Really hope not going to Maplestory route. pay to win.
Really hope not going to World of Warcraft (not classic vanilla) route... everything is dumped down casual for easy players and increase sub price while dropping every aspect of the original features.

I have no words for The Secret World since I didn't play much into it same for WildStar... other Lineage I, II, Everquest, EQ2, GW1 are dated to argue anything with it.

I don't mind the optional item shop. I supported the game back in 1.0 when and got Legacy. I only pay $7.99 a month for the 8 char per server with the 6 month deal. Now then that is already a $3 a month discount vs normal price. If I want to support the game and buy some pets or mounts I like, for $5 a pop I don't mind already paying less for a monthly fee. This is actually better then buying an overpriced $40 plushie or a $60 soundtrack to get the code for mini pets. I already paid $20 for the mog suit, when I didn't care much about the HD stream.

DLC is pretty much the norm for the game industry which is why I am not really surprised to see it in FFXIV. The most successful MMO has done a store like this for the past 4 years and it has been very successful for them. I use to be against buying extra stuff and DLC but then my attitude changed then I started buying. I pretty much bought everything they sold in FFXII-2 and Lightning Returns on the PS Store because I liked those games and I wanted the extra weapons and outfits. Selling extras in the store isn't going away so I thought I embrace it, gaming isn't the same as it was 20 years ago and times change.

If you don't want to support it then you don't have to buy anything from the store. Its entirely optional.

Is it still a quality game? Yes. Still good, cool people playing it? Yep. Its not the end of Eorzea, this game is still a baby after all. Thanks for the baking soda on this grease fire.

Same here guys. I've just wrapped my head around it, and learnt to accept it. It seems the popular thing to do nowadays. Everything has DLC content, even with single player games and whatnot. I know it isn't the same, but I've got over it now. I'm hoping they give us really nice vanity designs in the cashshop.

I have a feeling the cash shop will expand to include the following:

1. Golden Saucer tokens
2. Triple Triad card packs - random packs you open hoping to get that one card you are missing.
3. Chocobo raising and racing
4. Personal Houses?! lol..
5. Relic weapon glow dyes (I'd probably sink my cash into this one though tbh)
