It's the butthurt oldschool MMO gamers who think their archaic, out of date, NOT FUN way of leveling up by killing the same monster over and over and over is how you're supposed to level. Grinding is not fun. Nobody with a functioning brain finds it fun. They're suffering from Stockholm Syndrome because it's all their primitive minds can comprehend. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game means you play online with other players. While this of course means you will party with them to tackle hard challenges, it does not mean you should HAVE to party with them no matter what. I should be able to kill a fucking rat my level if I want to.

Grinding is an essential mechanic of MMORPG's; if you cant deal with that or don't find that fun then i suggest you either play a platformer or find a easier MMO.

Though grinding is used to provide a "level playing field", this effect could be achieved with any time-consuming behavior that is accessible to all and provides game advancement I.E. Leves, behests, group grinds, raids, you name it... they are all grinds.

Grinding mobs in one spot isn't essential, there's a number of MMOs on the market that already don't have you do this. Quest grinding is far more enjoyable even though it is still grinding. Any WoW clone can show you that much.
Am I saying this is necessarily what should be done? No. I'm just saying that there's other ways to do things. I only hope that Yoshi-P and this crew are inventive enough to find one rather than having us slay 10000 of one or two enemy types all the way up FFXI style.

It is what it is, i don't care if I'm killing three different mobs or if im killing one... its all a grind and there is no way around it. The sooner people stop trying to pretend that certain things are not a grind the sooner we can move onto important fun and valuable content that breaks up the monotone of a grind.

But whatever to each their own

Alot of people here only played XI and they only know one way. Grind till cap with barely any content and once you're there get gear. New gen MMO's are moving toward doing more and more content as you go to get away from his and give the user far more enjoyable experience. Quests are a big part of that but as it is in 14 they already a fail. Though it's nice to see SP reward for completing them, it's still far too difficult to seek out the quest and than finish it to claim your reward. It's a time sink that doesnt reward appropriately for the time or effort spent and you're better of just soloing mobs instead.

I have played a large number of MMO's and last i checked they all had a grind, some focused in other ways then others.

WOW- grind off of mobs or turn in an obscure amount of boring quests.

FFXI- party grind mobs (which i didn't mind, made a lot of friends and there was a lot of accountability in knowing your job)

    AION- same as WoW

    RIFT- same as WoW

DCUO- so far i have had the most fun with the grind in this game, but it was more difficult to make friends because all content was solo able.

If these are not your next gen MMO's and you are referring to Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, SWTOR, and so on they are not even release yet, so lets not count our chickens just yet.

I'm not saying trying to say they dont have grind, it's just that the grind there is more varied and not limited to exp party. WoW and Aion arnt exactly new MMO's either.

I understand what your saying, i just want people to realize the grind is in every MMORPG and we need to stop stressing on the god dam* grind and focus on fun, relevant, valuable, rewarding content that breaks up the monotone of a grind. When there is constant fun content all throughout the game, the grind becomes more of an after thought.
