Suppose they didn't phase out the old currency and introduce a new one. People would stockpile soldiery (or myth pre-2.2), get it to the 2000 cap... and then get several pieces of the new gear immediately.

This doesn't follow the progression model Squeenix wants.

You do realize people are stockpiling Myth and Sol tomes now..for that very reason, right? Once 2.4 lands, those who hit 50 Ninja and stocked up tomes will get the 'new gear' for them off the bat.

You will not be able to buy i120/i130 gear with stockpiled soldiery and myth and, for NIN or any other job, you'll be restricted by the 450/wk cap on the new currency. And that's the entire point of introducing new tomestones instead of perpetuating the old ones.
