    Why did they need to be phased out? Phil and myth?

    here is how i remember the listing: correct me if im wrong
    Philosophy
    -Dark light gear
    -Crafting items Tier 1
    -Relic weapon mod item
    Mythology
    -Relic Armor
    -Crafting items Tier 2
    -Relic weapon mod item
    Soldiery
    -Weathered gear
    -Weathered weapons
    ~~~~~~~
    So my question is: Why did they need to phase them out, they could have kept
    Phil and myth in the game and just adjust how much drops between dungeons/raids
    level 50-100
    back when Philosophy was discontinued i was disappointed because i knew it would
    make farming mats and Dark light gear more RNG based rather than time.
    my fears were made real when i started a new character and got to DL gear level. after a week of farming Lost city i never once saw Dark Light WHM pants, i ended up
    just buying the soldier gear. i was bummed out because ive always liked the look
    and was going to glam them after i upgraded to weathered gear. but that day never
    came...
    im now thinking the worst about the relic 90 gear... if Myth is being phased out
    is grinding Hunts going to be the only way to get them or are they going to become
    dungeon drops like Dark light? /shudder...
    Again im not raging or complaining i just want to open this to debate.
    why was this necessary?
    Seems like if a character was made today, the progression would go
    level 1-50 Buy crafted gear farm soldiery gear (level 100) that kinda just demeans all
    of 55-90 gear...
    are the devs telling us (Forget progression just get to current endgame everything else dosnt matter)
    level 50 dungeons Philosophy+5 mythology+3 soldiery+1 ???ology+0?
    level 60 dungeons Philosophy+7 mythology+5 soldiery+2 ???ology+0
    level 70 dungeons Philosophy+9 mythology+7 soldiery+3 ???ology+1
    level 80 dungeons Philosophy+0 mythology+9 soldiery+4 ???ology+2
    level 90 dungeons Philosophy+0 mythology+0 soldiery+5 ???ology+3
    in stead of phasing out completely just set them to a level range. then players would be able to farm a set item level range of dungeons for their items and gear.
    as of now it feel more proactive to just make level 70 or 90 gear and then farm harder dungeons with friends, which makes a large number of dungeons worthless.
    Everyone who replies to this thread i want to ask you one question:
    would you rather be able to farm a token item to buy items or leave it to the RNG of a single chest in a dungeon that takes anywhere from 30 mins to an hour to complete?
    Token or Chest RNG?
    To answer my own question, i would like gear like Darklight and relic to be Token gear
    and the awesome like the green gear that drops in lost city to be RNG
    Most likely 2 reasons:
    • Keep the number of currencies down so it's not as confusing and... excessive (FF11 has this problem)
    • Make sure newer players are able to get caught up and "viable" in a timely manner
    I know there is some nostalgia for the older gear but keep in mind that it will still be there and available for glamour if you like the look but you need to look at the big picture. No one wants to be stuck behind the curve unable to do anything with friends. Stones are there to make sure that you can progress steadily in gear by running content regardless of you getting drops are not so it doesn't really help to offer gear that won't allow you to do current content.
    The issue with the dungeon gear really is that you get mostly crafting materials which makes them a lot more rarer than they should be but the devs are going to change that sometime soon.
    tl;dr version: Because certain other MMOs does it.
    Nothing about XI's gear progression was confusing. The "Problem" with XI's progression was gear remained relevant and a lot of relevant gear was released on 55-70 cap. If you knew how to play your job you knew what gear to go after.
    I'm not talking about gear progression... I'm talking about the amount of currencies. As far as currencies/points goes FF11 has beastmen seals (like 7 varieties or so), Dynamis currencies, Assault Points, Conquest Points, Imperial Standing, Allied Notes, Ancient Beastcoins, Nyzul tokens, Therion Ichor (or whatever the Einherjar stuff was), Zeni, Cruor, FoV tabs, GoV points, Bayld, Sparks of emminence, and probably more. They're not all used to buy gear but neither are stones. It just makes more sense to have centralized currencies instead of a different one for every little thing.
    You can get all the gears without philo or myth tokens. So it is not about limiting the gears, but to limit the amount of currency
    I also don't understand the changes, they are obviously "rewarding" veteran players into having all the glamour items on an easy way, if you miss the train, you have to deal with the RNG, but they leave open a door for you to get gear 20 ilvls lower than the current max so you can catch up to the current content.
    I guess this is part of the reasoning behind it but there may be more, like memory problems, with the rng there are less people acquiring all that gear over time, so less people will demand more inventory space (which will just spell trouble for SE it seems), I guess it could be another motivation.
    But to answer your question my opinion is and has always been pretty clear as how the loot should be: Tokens for crafting materials > Crafted gear > Token Gear > RNG >= Crafted gear with open world materials.
    Edit: Another way they could have done this is to keep the same tokens, and move the old gear to some shop to be purchased for somehow high amounts of gil, to also introduce another gil sink into the alredy high inflated economy, or to be crafteable items and sell the recipes.
    Most of the items are moved to other content. The only real sob story here was darklight gear availability. All the crafting items were moved to other systems and they benefited greatly from it. Since Hunts can already get you Myth gear I don't see the darklight problem reoccurring. Instead I expect those items to move to other systems helping the overall game feel more robust.
    Eh...? Are you playing the same game as the rest of us? At what point are random drops and massive GC expenditures considered a benefit? Philosophy tomes were a lot easier to farm up than the extortionate asking price of the new GC seals option, and the random drops now replace actual armor in these dungeons.
    Now, not only is Darklight a toss up between getting Potash or a body piece, but you never know which item you're going to end up with. Ten bucks says it's for Culinarian though...
    You should do the Ixal daily quests
    All crafting mats you bought with philo and buy with myth are in the Ixal shop.
    Examples:
    Potash: 1 Ixali Oaknot
    Cashmere Fleece: 7 Ixali Oaknot
