When I read about this in the patch notes, I couldn't believe it!
So I went online, to La Noscea, and -
oh my God, my character just ran through a fence the same height as itsself!-_-"

I also noticed where you can get up and down in the landscape became completely random.
Sure, it's nice you don't have to walk around every little hill anymore, but seriously, at least you could just take a look at the minimap and knew where to get up and down.
Now the map is completely useless, because the lines showing where you could NOT go up/down are not matching the real landscape anymore. But sometimes you still can't get up, leading to my character rubbing against an invisible wall all the time until it finally finds a way up.

That's not improved gameplay, that's a huge step backwards >_>
I never even heard anyone complain about this, why remove collision detection?x-X
Pretty much the only thing people never really complained about was the realistic world Eorzea is.
No, passing through solid fences and jumping up rocks twice your own height without even a jump animation is not realistic.

Based on your registration date, I'm sure you've likely missed quite a bit lol -- yes people have indeed complained about:

"Objects and characters/monsters shouldn't block my path"
"I should be able to fall off and walk up any height cliff"
"I shouldn't get stopped running into someone"

    And so on.

It's not improving it, but people are complaining for "improvements" such as this then when said "improvements" happen, they realize....it's not an improvement.

I've been around since beta (not with this account though) and read a lot not to miss when FFXIV becomes playable again.
Well, I already am playing, so I feel I also may post on the forums now.
I remember when people got angry about collision detection with other players, and I understand that, because there are just so many players, it's horrible otherwise. It's unrealistic, but it was needed to be changed.
Same with very small height differences on the floor like stairs.
I'm alright with all of them, but what I'm not alright with is this. It makes stuff look really unrealistic, and it's not even something we need, because unlike with stairs or players, you can just walk around any fence or hill.

It seems like such a waste of programming trying to "fix" this collision detection issue. When they finally implement jump, we are alll just going to ask for collision back. So they might as well have just left it as it was right up until they put in jump. In the meantime the whole world is full of unrealistic levitators and people that can pass through solid objects.

Sometimes I think SE just wants to get off doing minimal effort. Like maybe they hope if they take away enough collision player won't still want jump anymore and then they won't have to bother implementing.

Trouble is, now there's even more impetus to give us jump! So we don't have to look at all these unrealistic things happening everywhere.

You may want to know that in 99% of engines collision is just made by a 3D shape with a true/false switch.

    So, those characters?

Can you make your point clearer? I am not following/seeing the relevance.

You're saying that it's a "such waste of programming", while it's simply a true/false switch. You could probably go through switching them all from true to false and back in an afternoon.

Still, you'd think they'd have better things to do.

Like improving the playability of the game? Oh wait! This is exactly what they did with this change.

You really must have not played much if the timewasting detours around the ledges and fences didn't bother you.

Yes, you indeed missed how much people complained exactly about having too walk around fences or hills.
