So how does you playing a game affect your real life? I take it you're not married.Someone always comes in to say this. It's not that simple, especially with an MMO, where you are playing with other people. Just because those people are on the other side of the Internet does not mean you're not wasting their time by quitting on them.
It should be placed into roughly the same level of commitment as going to the movies, or playing a sport with friends; recreational, but involving others. If someone has a real emergency at their house, with their family, medically, etc. then of course they should leave and take care of that. If someone calls and tells them to take out the trash or go buy some groceries, then it can wait until the current commitment is over.
It's not just "real life > video games" when other people's real lives are affected too.
What annoys me is when the person knows they're filling the last spot...thus ending the PF...and then they leave straight away. And then I have to put the PF back up...Hi to all those people out there that like to join our parties for some serious practice and multiple runs! Only to leave 2 secs later because your dinner is ready or you have to go to work! Question! Why join in the 1st place if your just gona leave straight away? You waste our time D:
Who else's gear's get grinned when this happens?
I sometimes have to leave because I play when my son is napping and wakes up. It is unpredictable when he will awake from his nap so I've had to leave DF and PF groups after like 5 minutes before. You might be frustrated but my son is more important than this game.

This is why I still haven't finished the main story line yet.
It's usually the case of being short-sighted or irresponsible.
You should never queue for a dungeon unless you have at least an hour of time to spare. An hour you know for certain you have. If you're a dps then you should add 20 minutes on top of that for the queue time.
With auto-renew you get an email each month a few days before it renews so if you want to cancel your sub you still can.I don't have mine on auto re-new and a lot of people I know don't. I make a mistake in the past, where I subscribed for 3 Month Terms. [...]
With none auto re-new, I can take a break anytime without commitment and wasting my money. It's not I don't have the money, it just when the game is no longer fun I unsubscribed and take a break and come back to check out the patch, if it not good I won't subscribed next month instead of having it auto renew on me.
And in regards to being married somehow meaning you have to suddenly drop everything when called: get a more respectful partner? Nothing has to be done "right this second", it can wait 20 mins. I don't understand how gamers could ever end up with a partner who doesn't understand their gaming hobby. I'd never be able to date a non-gamer.

That would fall under an emergency of sorts, though. What we're talking about in this thread is when people know in advance that they don't have much time (dinner is in the oven, need to leave for work, etc) and they join anyway.

I like when people wiped a lot then says "Alright I gotta go."
Then sit there for decades because they don't wanna eat the time penalty.
LIARS! xDD! They ain't have to go no where. When I have to go or am tired, I just say good luck and sorry for the wipes we had
and go. Who cares about eating the time when you really have to go lol.
Or when they say "Gtg!" and then DC's and doesn't bother leaving the PT, so they can get a free kick or something...
When it comes to priorities in my life, FFXIV is pretty much the absolute bottom of the list. And if I have to leave a dungeon because my wife saw that we need to run to the grocery store before work, then I'm going to leave the dungeon. Because that's what responsible adults do.
Also, if you're in PF, the most time that gets wasted by someone leaving during a fight is exactly the amount of time you've spent in that fight. And if you haven't queued yet, zero time has been wasted. Not some giant chunk of time, as some people seem to be hinting at. And if you're farming, and they leave between fights, again zero time has been wasted.
