If your going to try leaning a new class and run with the big dogs by playing hard mode dungeons, expect some backlash. I know I would.

This should not be the default, nor should this be the reasonable expectation. People should be more consider of the newer players, and beside who is so special to the "big dogs"? What did they do that allows them to treat other badly? They just forgot once upon a time, they were messing up and other people had to put with them. I know BLMs and BRDs that thought they wanted to get highest value on the aggro meter meant they were doing their job best, until they tried to do tanking and learned otherwise. The tanks that put with crap like this was just taken for granted and many of them never even complained, but people forget, and they think it is ok to abuse others. To them it is always someone else's fault instead of their own. Newbies/newer players that don't know enough to do anything about it are often just the easy prey, for big bad wolf.

Similar thing happened yesterday. Was watching my cousin play as a tank (he was new to tanking) and the dps were pulling hate like no tomorrow. I felt bad for him, so I gave him some pointers (Overpower, positioning, etc.). Luckily the other members were patient with him.
Leave that sorry excuse of a discussion for the other topic. Please respect other people's topics by NOT going off-topic. Thank you.
If you are learning the ropes to a new class, expect criticism and learn to adapt. This is more noticable for healers and tanks that are starting off. It takes practice, and eventually they'll get there. The 'backlash' mentioned probably also meant that mistakes may happen when learning, not the fact that people complain.

You are over looking some things like, as OP said, the tank as a PLD. You are comparing to your WAR and your non-issue of aggro. It just doesn't really compare. Tanking as a PLD can be difficult at times when you have multiple DPS classes that are significantly well geared and 20ilvls is quite a bit. BLMs popping multi Flares creates a lot of hate and a PLD is fine with generating aggro...on a single target. Either way, even if the tank was a little unsure of his/her skills, OP doesn't make it sound like the tank was doing wrong.
With regards to OP's situation, should have just let the DPS die. Perhaps they would rage quit and you would get people a bit more considerate. Just because they aren't tanks, doesn't mean they are not responsible for their own enmity.
Just saying I would think that someone running hard mode would atleast know what they are doing. And if they don't other players may see it as ruining it for them. Not saying that is what I would do, but playing as a tank I have encountered this many times, so I know what its like, when you don't meet peoples expectations. Playing as a tank you do need some thick skin. Not saying that is right, but the sad reality is its what happens and there isn't much going to change about that.
It is the same topic. People are treating "newbies and newer players badly" and that needs to stop. The "no newbies wanted" check box are dreamed up by people want to treat the newbies and newer players badly.
Who are you to criticize? How about expect guidance, encouragement, and advice? And not the type of advice that starts with cussing people out.

NyarukoW, the straw man arguments are way out of control. They didn't make sense in the other thread, and they REALLY don't make sense here considering that the gist of this thread is "be considerate of less experienced players by not charging in regardless of their skill level."
There are no wicked elitists here trying to stuff all the allegedly helpless newbies into the Eorzean ghetto, cruelly locking them out of all DF content now and forever.
...if that sounded overblown and ridiculous, that's because your comments are very nearly that hyperbolic.
That is not ridiculous or overblown, because that is what is happening in game. The newer players are being shoved aside time and time again, and it is happening with increasing frequency. What you call hyperbolic is actually very close to reality. This needs to stop, and the community can come together and stop it.
Look! If it is not abuot people being excluded from instances, then it is about people being forced to skip cutscenes, or people quitting out of ST when they get their loot, or skipping the final boss because they are soldiery capped. or whatever other scheme they come up with, etc. etc.. The list never ends. It is almost always the experienced players that figure out how the game the system to their advantage and taking for granted everyone else, especially the newer players. Be considerate of everyone else, and stop behaving badly toward others.

The "check box" argument is the one that is off-topic. Please leave it for the other discussion, m'kay? If you still think it's relevant to the topic, please read the OP and tell me where it mentions a "check box".
As for the criticism, it can go both ways. Some people may give constructive criticism, and some may just yell at you. At the end of the day, criticism helps people to learn from their mistakes. It's not an entirely bad thing per say. Without it, you'd just be going in blind with no improvement because nobody tells you otherwise.
I see criticism as a way to improve and as a learning experience, no matter how it was received. If someone yelled at me, then I obviously did something I shouldn't have. If someone nudged me and gave some advice, I can take that advice and learn from it. You're really making it sound like any sort of criticism is bad.

My guess is you have yet to tank any dungeons? This game is full of "D's" and like I said when you don't meet their expectations, they have no issue letting you know about it. Of course this isn't right, but it is what happens.
