Elemental resistances are the illusion of choice/variety if they follow the standard FF-type "monster is weak to fire, monster does ice damage" type situation. In the single player game it's a bit of a kind of puzzle because you're often limited in equipment and/or preparation.

In an MMO it's "Don't take a summoner as caster to Shiva because we need to hit her with fire" and "bring all your ice resist gear and equip a fire weapon". That just means it's really the same thing it's always been except now you have to put on a different hat.

If you wanted it to be interesting there have to be trade offs to using elements such that it actually involves planning and changes strategy. Dealing bonus damage means you take bonus damage or X adds will resist you such that you may or may not want everybody suited up in the counter-color. This is very hard to balance.

Or, it could be like FFXI..where you could still take them and unless the monster SPECIFICALLY ABSORBS an element all it does is not be as effective to the point you'd do 800 damage instead of 82989278378 damage. You do realize there's more classes than just BLM, right? Like there's also BRD and SMN and DRG and MNK and soon Ninja...all of which you can actually play. People don't say: "if you choose only one class to play despite being able to play them all on one character you can end up hurting your own flexibility" for no reason you know ;p

Hey guess which game had content that specifically excluded jobs? Oh that's right FF11. Why take melee to anything when AOEs are a pain in the ass or instant death when we can just bring RNG and BLM that not only stay out of AOE range but do more damage anyway. Oh sorry PLD these enemies 1-shot even you we need a NIN instead.

Pretty much every MMORPG when there's a specific strategy that's deemed the most "efficient" - Or is this truly your first MMORPG?

I'm going to say this because you come into every thread that tries to revive stupid concepts from that game like a fly to a rotting corpse (the corpse being those concepts which need to be buried) and I know it annoys you

No lets not make it like that, because that's a bad idea and the spirit of this game is to improve not regress back to the dark ages.
