What's your point? I was referring to the actual summons themselves, not their appearances. XIV uses the exact same set of six elemantal avatars from XI for it's elemental primals. Given how much of XIV's content is lifted directly from XI this is no real surprise, which is precisely why a lot of people are disappointed Diabolos and Fenrir didn't get the same treatment...

Pro tip: There were Final Fantasies that came out before FFXI did. What's your point? I was referring to the actual summons themselves, not their appearances. FFVIII: Shiva
FFVII: Shiva
FFVII: Odin
FFIV: Odin
The actual point is, these are gods and goddesses from folk lore around the world and have been built on those principals since their first introduction into the Final Fantasy franchise. They have been present in different capacities throughout the franchise's history. Yes you can point to a specific FF and say "That's how they did it in this game, why are you different now, you disappoint me SE." but you are missing the whole concept of the franchise. Each game was its own separate entity, different battle system, different level up system, different world, different players. While they keep some elements, such as Cid, Summons, Crystals, they are each essentially their own game. It hasnt been until the past 10 years or so where they started to even do a direct sequel for any particular numbers game in the series.
So please, stop the silly arguing over a "summon" that was only in maybe 3 of the numbered FF's when they have a whole slew of others to choose from. Besides, Fenrir was a pretty useless summon in all of the ones I recall... He has more clout as a dungeon boss and will probably get more exposure because of it. How often do you see ifrit or titan summoned? rarely.
Just my 2gil.

Again you've completely missed the point. I know the summons have been in previous games in the series. My point was XIV took the exact entire set of elemental summons from XI. Come on, you can't have overlooked the fact that tons of things from XI were copied directly into XIV. Most of the common enemy models are the same, the races are the same with new names, the primals = the avatars. When SE chose to copy directly like that they set an expectation that other things might receive the same treatment. That is why people are disappointed. Fenrir and Diabolos were very important in XI but here they're just one-off bosses that you'll defeat and then forget about as they're inconsequential to the story. It's disappointing.Pro tip: There were Final Fantasies that came out before FFXI did.

If the devs added your favourite job in an expansion but gutted it and made it nothing like you expected you would be disappointed. You would have a right to voice that disappointment. So why can't people voice disappointment that one of their favourite characters has been relegated to the trash heap?
As for how often any summon is actually used... that's nothing to do with the summon itself and more to do with bad balancing by the devs. You rarely see ifrit or titan summoned because the devs refuse to make them useful.

You are disappointed due to reading too much into things. Here's a thought. Would it still be possible for them to add in Fenrir, Diablos, and Siren as summons later on? this is just their initial introduction? How do we know the dark crystal doesnt all of a sudden go nutz and enrage all the primals? Did you watch the intro from 1.0? Did you see how many lights were released in the battle with Midgardsormir? They were ALL summons. Yoshi-P already stated "no new summons will be introduced until the release of 3.0" "the end of 2.0 will be just as impactful and grand as the end of 1.0, just without redoing all the landscape.Again you've completely missed the point. I do get your point, but can you tell me exactly when Fenrir was introduced into FFXI? if it wasnt in Rise of the Zilart, then it is NOT the initial set of summons. and its fenrir the only neat thing they did with him was this:

No, you simply have expectations you should never have had in the first place. So they copied some features directly from XI. Well they also didn't copy many things from XI at the same time. The idea that because the elemental avatars were the same therefore the elder primals should be the same holds no water. The elemental primals being the same only means the elemental primals were the same. Nothing more. Nothing less. Anything beyond what's right in front of you was an assumption. A reasonable assumption yes, but still an assumption. If you want to be disappointed then you should be disappointed with your own assumption based expectations.Again you've completely missed the point. In addition to all the assumptions. People are also assuming he isn't an elder primal. There is literally nothing that states a dungeon boss is A) already at their full power and B) can't return some day in the future. Keep in mind they already told us the Kraken would return someday and we never killed him. Nothing stops this from being a weaker aspect of fenrir, or fenrir himself just not at full power, or any number of possible options including him being a elder primal. So many assumptions.

And as you know, they copied a lot of stuff from FF3 also, Crystal Tower, AF armor designs warriors of light, the crystals etc.
