I didn't care about housing before the patch. When i saw the result, i thought they were extremely lazy but i didn't really care so much. It's only when i saw the "last communication" of Yoshida (can't call that an excuse) that i became angry. This lame communication was an insult to players intelligence.

The statement was not that personal houses would be cheaper due to depreciating value, it was that they would be "completely separate from free company" prices, and "far more affordable [than them]".

It actually got worse. Between the Eorzea Cafe video (which, sorry folks who made it, that stuff looked really staged) and the responses at TGS, it seems that they're doubling down on it being the player's fault.

I don't think it's having the result they want though. Instead of us going "You know what? You're right. It's our fault". I'm seeing more "Are you seriously that out of touch?"

I know, i didn't say i was no longer angry... My account on FFXI is still active, the patch on this game are fun, there is a test server, they communicate on the next patch and give us exactly what they promised, i think i know which one of this games deserve my money

I feel you on that (sorry if it sounded like I didn't think you were upset).

I'm holding out hope on 2.4. I really am. In the same way that Boston fans hold out hope for a win against the Yankees. I still want to like Square and Yoshi. They're in a bad PR bubble because, now that they've dug themselves in, they keep talking when they should just lay low and wait for 2.4 to change the subject.

It's sad that it seems like their strategy was to keep us in the dark after initial statements about housing just so that they'd have no accountability when called out about it if things changed. We literally had zero information for months up until the day of the patch. Usually major features get a preview post, not this one.

I don't think that we're getting much more than additional wards in 2.4, tbh. They're doubling down on the idea that this was the plan all along and that we're mistaken, it's almost too late to go back on it, now, especially with 2.4 right around the corner.

Yeah, it seemed incongruous to me when compared to previous patches, even small patches. The dev blog was nearly silent.

I completely agree. I'm thinking more about the new class addition. At this point they can't back away from their housing stance without looking so much worse.

I think that they'd honestly look so much better for owning their mistakes with personal housing - much in the same way that they looked so much better when they owned their mistakes with 1.0. I don't know that they'd want to make Yoshida look like a liar, though, considering he's the darling of the community.

It would also take considerable effort to implement a separate system for personal housing, which I'm guessing is the reason we got this mess. I'm sure that more than half of the devs are currently working on the expansion, so there may just not be enough resources for it.

I'd take that apology Teryaani had posted too [I can't find original post.]...albeit I'd still be pretty upset, but nope.
Instead you got him using some shield defense saying we misread and being really
really insensitive calling us all lazy and crap.
He's blaming US for HIS mistake. That looks so bad on his part.

You have a good point there. I'm wondering if their PR people can find a way to back peddle gracefully. Had he just gone with the "Oops! We should have mentioned that" angle instead of "You guys just misread it" one, it would been so much better on him. You're right about how people think of him though. Maybe he could still mea culpa and have it all smooth out.
