Loosing players after update?

It wasn't released this way. It was made buy to play when people realized how utterly bad it was and square had to save face. It would be quite different.

However, that said Yoshi-P in at least one interview did support the idea of f2p if it came to that.

Unless expertly done, which so far I've -never seen- or am sure even exists, I'd drop FFXIV if it became f2p.. lol

Thanks to whales I won't be able to play a normal F2P game, which Blizzard found out - went away from that too. I'm paying monthly for content to be within the game not from with out, expansions forgiven since they allow devs the courage to try new systems and I like that.

I think FFXIV is doing well, but they should purposely look for ways to not have the housing response again - I'd wager /not/ a significant portion of the players but I imagine some people legitimately quit from it.

Balmung is crammed pack, on the weekends during peak hours you just shove your way through the crowd. Or in my case goobbue sneeze my way through, SE should have never given me mount abilities..

I got shot once and I then proceeded to have a Magitek mount duel for the next 15 minutes till my duty called... Although I plan on dipping out for a bit when Witcher 3 rolls out and the last Dark Souls 2 DLC (so long as SE doesn't face plant I'll keep my sub going though).

Don't forget tiggy, it was also the D3 Hardcore Seasonal release prior to Destiny as well. My FC is the same, they have started to trickle back. Went to D3 hardcore seasonal, destiny and now we are preparing for 2.4!

You and me both man. I definitely don't want it to go that way either since I think it ruins game quality at the cost of an initial burst of subs. Just had to give some credit in my response since Yoshi has mentioned it at least once.
