Yeah I always use Shroud Topsoil on Krakka Roots and I get piles of Sylkis Bud seeds (in average more that if I'd use Thanalan Topsoil) and as added bonus double amount of Krakka Roots as well. It's well worth it if you run multipply gardens / repeated loops. Get over 150 Sylkis just in couple of weeks, planning to move to next stage (Sylkis & Boombrush) nex week, still need a few more Broombrush seeds to be able to fill most of the garden Garden patches in one go ...

I planted a full garden of Krakka roots and used grade 2 shroud topsoil but did not receive any sulked bud seeds? Am i doong something wrong? I was under the impression u only get seeds when inter crossing plants?

You are not doomed, you are just the average joe when it comes to luck. Some Math i fished up while reading page of page for gardening since it got released:

Somewhere i read that the intercrossing chance with Shroud and Limsa soil is about 12.5% - the average rate. Now that is not that bad. With that rate one out of eight seeds planted will still cross. Not too bad if the yield is 9 seeds, right?

Now the tricky part tho. The new seeds will not 100% cross to one plant but always have two possibilities. Which drops the average seedbag gain to 6,25% or one out of 16 average. Which is two Delux Patches.

Now the Thanalan Soil is hit by that as well so it is still 1 more seed, on average, per cross with Grade 3 Shroud Soil. But it is a lottery really. We had 2 patches yield no Sylkis seeds 2 times a row. Thats 32 chances. The other time we had 6/8 yield 9 seeds.

tl&dr:

Its just luck with Shroud soil. If you want to play safe, or are in real need of seeds, use G3 Thanalan Soil. If you want to get lucky on roulette or have plenty in stock, use the cheaper Shroud Soil

I haven't had any luck with shroud soil the last few weeks, before that I was getting 9 sylkis seeds around 20% of the time with grade 3

The same type of plant does not cross. You have to plant two types (or more) if you want it to crossbreed.

Yea thats what i was wondering as HEC mentioned he used shroud soil on the Krakka's but didnt mention he had another plant beside them. Makes sence now. I'm assuming he had Almonds or Dzameal planted beside them.

Correct - Almonds. Apologies for a "confusing" post. I'm so engulfed in running the mega Thanvarian Onion "plantage" that I sometimes loose track of the rest Just this week I've got 3 times 9 Sylkis bud seeds from 2 delux patches ... but twice before that none or one only so it does even out over the time and I still have double amount of Krakka roots to feed all my chungry chocos.
