You can check your ping to the server in real time using
Windows Resource Monitor > Network tab > select ffxiv.exe and check your latency under TCP Connection.

Great tip. Thanks. That worked great for me. I'll be sure to remember it for other games and services as well.
To the other repliers, for some reason, I cannot ping any of the servers - they all time out. Maybe it's just me, or my firewall. And the in-game thingie looks more like packets in/out to me than latency, and it's way unstable to tell anything really either. Thanks anyway though. Now I know I have around 20-30 ping to the servers -- a pretty safe spot to be, indeed, hehehehhh !!!!.....
