All Costume Contest contestants need to submit an email with all of the information requested on the website before September 30th. If you show up to the event in costume hoping to enter, but did not send the information regarding your costume that we requested ahead of time, you will not be able to enter. The first evaluation mentioned is at the event, where your costume will be seen by a set of judges to determine the top 30 entries.

Is there any possibility to add two individuals for one entry?

Each entry should send a separate email.

I too am pondering my sculpture or not. I love how it turned out and I did make it specifically for the event and want to share it with everyone at the Fan Fest. So I am leaning towards yes.

Will there be separate judging for handmade and purchased costumes?

I think they're doing what most cosplay events have been doing. First looks and they'll ask what was made and so on and pick the best from those. I'v seen alot from Cosplay Heroes on syfy.

To people wondering about the nature of the contest... While obviously I'm not an authority on this, this is my assumption based on the information presented:

To people familiar with cosplay contests, this seems like a 'hall cosplay contest' -- aka, judged on the costume itself, alone. There won't be groups, just individuals. The 30 finalists chosen following this initial meeting will have the opportunity to walk on stage and show off their craftsmanship, and during this time, I don't think SE will mind if you do a little pose or something. It might even be possible to do your walk with people with similar costumes (if they are finalists too), but as far as I understand it, the costumes themselves are judged separately, as are who wins the prizes. Many times, entries for 'hall cosplay contests' are read individually, and those people walk individually as their name/character is read. I'm not saying SE will do this... but it's what I'm familiar with.

I'm unsure what the rules are about costumes being commissioned or handmade. At many other conventions, the first 'meeting' with the judges is so they can get a good look at the detail as well as ask you questions about how you made each item, down to what material you used, how you attached certain pieces, etc. I've only entered one hall contest many years ago, so the details about that are pretty fuzzy.

Now something I'm wondering... Will we receive any confirmation for our entry? I sent it in a few days ago and want to make sure I was included. =P

You know, normally I'm a big fan of cosplay contests. Not being able to enter as a group is a bit weird though - what if one of our group got in and the others didn't? Plus, there don't seem to be very clear cut judging guidelines? What's the point breakdown here?

Nah, I think I'll sit this one out.

I was also looking for clarification on what was allowed to be entered as far as bought costumes are concerned. Most cosplay contests that I have entered have required at least 60% of the costume be made by the person entering in order to qualify for prizes. Otherwise, you can basically pay to win a contest and negates all the hard work the other contestants have put in.

The full rules mention Original Work of Authorship - "You hereby warrant and represent that as between you and parties other than Square Enix, you own all rights to all Entry Materials submitted by you; and all such Entry Materials are original works of authorship on your part and do not violate, misappropriate, or infringe any proprietary right of any other person or entity." as well as disqualification for "Infringements upon personal credit"
