I am in no way taking either sides. I believe both ends have very valid points. That's why most costume contests have various categories to help with this clash.

I pretty sure the point that is trying to be made here is that if there are no limits then anyone can technically everyone buy their ‘win’ (like Titan HM win so you can go around showing off your new prize Relic that you didn’t earn for example, oh the old days of RT shouts outs..). Not saying that only original crafters should be judge, only that it should be taken into consideration and how majority of other costume contests are done. Its not a good way to compare one person that takes months to make theirs while it took one person one minute to write a check.

I love making costumes, but performing or acting is not my thing and this is my short fall in competitions. That's why I have my boyfriend wear the costumes I make. We’ve competed against each other in the past wearing costumes I’ve made and he always wins because of this.

The one thing I see the most is typically creativity and not skill wins in the end.

Correct, but clarification somehow led to below which I believe took place here :
And unfortunately as we have all seen, not everyone is up front about having bought their costumes, and some go out of their way to lie.
Personally as a cosplay designer who has accepted hundreds of commission offers for the better good, There are realistically some artists (sometimes myself at times) who ask for privacy. The reasons could simply mean anything.

While I am not taking anyone's side on this but my own, it is not ok to not credit the original author for anything. I agree to that. Is that originally your call to make directly to another who wants to showcase themselves for the fanfest and maybe competition? no. That's what judges are for. For all you know "that" particular attendee maybe reconsidering not wanting to go to the fanfest. Who knows. I am not trying to pick bone on another topic that belongs elsewhere, but going based on your previous posting pattern.

Of course, no one here wants to argue, but to have fun. Keep in clear mind though, people are spending possibly thousands of dollars to attend this event.
I too will end my explanation from here before this sticky becomes more sour.

It's a ticky subject but watching ciosplay judging shows... Those judges seem to favor those who craft the majority of their own costume vs premade purchased items. No matter what in the end its all about fun. Enjoy your costume regardless. Make it on stage, flaunt it; don't? Flaunt it during the fan fest anyway and have fun.

    Submission Process

I'm a bit confused on the submission part... I was working on a piece that is a bit more like a craft; am I supposed to just mail it in? Or do I enter by following the online instructions and post a picture of it on a third party site, and if I become a finalist, then I mail it in?

If I am supposed to just mail it in, how will I know if a) it was received on time and b) it will/will not be at the event?

If you're working on a crafted submission (i.e. not a 2D art piece), you don't need to take a photo and submit it. Simply mail it to our office, address on the submission site, with the required information and we'll take it from there!

I see people going back and forth on the issue if commissioned costume should be allowed. Can we get an admin to comment on this? Are commissioned costumes allowed to enter?

I was wondering, for 2D pieces, do they have to be a certain size? I just finished mine and Im not sure what size you guys want it.

There is no rule stating that you must create some or all of your costume.
