I am in no way taking either sides. I believe both ends have very valid points. That's why most costume contests have various categories to help with this clash.
I pretty sure the point that is trying to be made here is that if there are no limits then anyone can technically everyone buy their ‘win’ (like Titan HM win so you can go around showing off your new prize Relic that you didn’t earn for example, oh the old days of RT shouts outs..). Not saying that only original crafters should be judge, only that it should be taken into consideration and how majority of other costume contests are done. Its not a good way to compare one person that takes months to make theirs while it took one person one minute to write a check.
I love making costumes, but performing or acting is not my thing and this is my short fall in competitions. That's why I have my boyfriend wear the costumes I make. We’ve competed against each other in the past wearing costumes I’ve made and he always wins because of this.
The one thing I see the most is typically creativity and not skill wins in the end.
