Has anyone noticed that just about every person who managed to speak to Yoshi-P about this housing issue have all been about the price and never about the lack of actual space?

Blame the community for focusing on it so much; he didn't even really lie about the price, just the fact that prices would be separate. Just go look back at 2.1s patch notes (which they even linked in the 2.38 patch notes) for the old prices; Lowest price for a small was 4,000,000 and now it's 2,000,000. Highest price for a large was 625,000,000 and now it's 87,500,000. All before prices depreciate.

Prices have come down a lot over the past nine months. The only lie is that he said prices for Personal and Free Company Housing would be separate, when they're not. People complaining about price haven't been putting effort into saving Gil (or they've just been doing it wrong and should read the post I made somewhere on how to print Gil), the only issue outside them screaming is that of the number of plots not meeting demand, an issue not helped by the fact they have individuals and companies competing.
