Alot of you guys obviously don't read the pvp section of this forum, because the term "Carebear" is used often and practically in every thread, so its not an uncommon reference.

His game sure doesn't reflect it. PvP is a gigantic afterthought in this game. Frontlines is a good step, but world pvp? None. Duels? None. Pvp server? None. Not pvp oriented at all, just the way the game is. The OP, despite strong ambitions to be the best and voice that admirable desire for a competitive server, isn't gonna get any love here on these forums - now new minions and hats, thats what wins people over...

that's the point the term is thrown around for anything someone doesn't like. so yes the term is still a joke.

I'll repeat myself, the structure of the factions (not being at war with each other) makes wPVP make zero sense in this game. Not to mention the fact that, unless implemented right, it ends up being a grief fest that drives players away. If SE was to implement wPVP it would be a disaster both in terms of lore and mechanics.

And duels? Seriously? The last thing I want in this game is to be trying to finish dailies and having some twelve year old following me around spamming a duel challenge. Those of you lamenting the lack of these features either forget the negatives or are the ones who cause them.

While I loved the feature in eq, yeah, duels wouldn't work, we don't like each other enough as it is...

Yes, seriously. A safe and fun way to add PvP competition would be to add a Colosseum, where people can challenge each other and go duel. All harassment problems solved. Duels are fun and good learning experience on what your class can do vs other classes in a pvp situation. We can have a ranking board and rewards and all that good stuff to make it interesting, those that don't want to participate simply ignore it and act like it don't exist (like most do with all the other pvp in this game).

On the first page of this thread, some people said thats a term they haven't heard in awhile, so I was responding them, ya carebear.

It doesn't make sense. The reason open PvP was a thing with WoW and other MMO's because the foundation was built on two factions warring against each other. The three nations of Eorzea are all allied together and no reason to kill one out in the open world. Even lore explains why we compete with each other in Frontlines, which is a more friendly way of things. This idea is only viable if factions were broken off between Eorzea and Garlemald.

Honestly I'd like much more robust PvP as well. I never thought it was something I would enjoy - my first mmo was XI and then I moved to WoW - but after playing a bit... I have to say that battlegrounds was one of my favorite things to do in WoW.

XI's lagging behind in terms of good pvp. The rip off from Rift isn't all that great, and the Wolves den is... Well it's just not battlegrounds. I think that if they want to increase their playerbase, they DO need to dedicate a team to good pvp development.

And for the love of the twelve, keep pvp and pve SEPARATE

As a former L2 player (2004-2009 o_O) I can relate to this feeling, sometimes I just want to kill someone...

As for the rest - why do games have to have some hyper-competitive aspect or be considered bad? Why do you have to be better than someone else and have to be able to prove it? What does it say about you if you DEMAND competition, instead of DEMANDING cooperation? Why aren't you more interested in helping others and less interested in being "better" than others?

EDIT: This being said, I liked how WoW did it's PvP servers, at least back during vanilla days. I'm not sure what it's like nowadays (I haven't played since Wrath). I liked grouping up with my Alliance friends and running through Silverpine Forest trying to get to Shadowfang Keep for my Paladin quest, all while watching over our shoulders for enemies. It was exciting and kept you on your toes.
