I think you've touched on why FFXIV is the way it is. Square makes PvE MMOs with cooperation as the focus (Though, somehow, we still get a lot of drama over loot and such...)

There's really a ton of games games that focus on competitive play. MOBA style games offer some RPG elements while still being highly competitive, if that's your things. If you want even more focus on RPG progression while still having extreme, competitive PvP, there's EVE online. If it doesn't need the RPG element, there's really just a ton of games out there and virtually all of them have stat tracking and competitive guilds/clan/gaming orgs.

I don't like telling people to stop playing a game, but when you start... keep in mind who the primary audience/audiences are. For FF games, it's not the highly competitive types.

I'm in agreement with Ris. Back in 2.0, one of the most popular suggestions was to implement something like Blitzball or a competitive sport for PvP instead of the typical arena and BG PvP. So the target audience of FFXIV is different than what OP probably was expecting.

I think that the extent of pvp that's going to be seen are the equivalents to WoW's battlegrounds and arenas.

I don't really care for duels, though it doesn't need lore to support it (maybe, except, that it can't be done within certain locations such as, say, an area that has an aetherite). I just dislike duels simply because of 7 years of being spammed with duel requests from man-children who then harass you for declining their initial request. I've also experienced duel requests used as a form of harassment, so there's that as well.

And if they were to allow open world pvp (even though the lore does not support it) they would have to create new world servers focused on pvp. Then there would be complaints from some pvpers that they would have to transfer to these world servers, or create new characters. O-PvP just leaves far too much room for harassment.

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.

His game sure doesn't reflect it. PvP is a gigantic afterthought in this game. Frontlines is a good step, but world pvp? None. Duels? None. Pvp server? None. Not pvp oriented at all, just the way the game is. The OP, despite strong ambitions to be the best and voice that admirable desire for a competitive server, isn't gonna get any love here on these forums - now new minions and hats, thats what wins people over...
He doesn't go nuts with it because he figures most FF players are not huge fans of PvP; however, he would like to add more if he can get players into PvP. (this stuff is coming from interviews)

When he talks about his previous mmo experience from what I have seen it's mostly talking about pvp this and pvp that.

As a former L2 player (2004-2009 o_O) I can relate to this feeling, sometimes I just want to kill someone...

However, I don't think FF14 could become a competive PvP game, this would need quite some changes (skills, gears, maybe attributes, game contents...) and I have the feeling the community is not fit for it.
You're absolutely right, as much as I wish you weren't . Honestly I came onto these forums to give my feedback on what could make the game better, but after witnessing the community in all it's glory, I think I'm just going to avoid it like the plague.

Especially that one-liner this seemingly entire community holds so dear "this is not the game for you."

Games only need one thing. Fun. If you're not having fun, it's failed at its job. As long as FFXIV continues to be fun, I'll continue to enjoy playing it, PvP or not. When it ceases to be fun, that's when players move on to greener pastures.

It's often accurate to say "X is/may not be for you" though. What would you tell someone that wants to drive a car, but absolutely hates the idea of it having more than 2 wheels and lacking a need for pedaling like a bicycle?

The PvP thing would be interesting, but the imbalance of open world would be crazy in this game right now LOL. Small zones, teleport standstills, limited resource activities (e.g. leves), etc.

Duels are fun and good learning experience on what your class can do vs other classes in a pvp situation. We can have a ranking board and rewards and all that good stuff to make it interesting, those that don't want to participate simply ignore it and act like it don't exist (like most do with all the other pvp in this game).
If it was done like that, I'd be with you on it. The advantage of the instanced pvp is that players who don't care about it can ignore it and it's present in the game for those who like that competitive fix.

On the first page of this thread, some people said thats a term they haven't heard in awhile, so I was responding them, ya carebear.
    Unfunny comment is still unfunny.

I don't raid outside of ct/st, but I still want the endgame raids in the game because I know people like it. I don't pvp, but I still want the instanced pvp in the game for other players who like it. In short, I don't piss on other people's parades. There's no need for players with the "carebear" and "casual" nonsense to piss on mine.

It was a bit of both and now the game is feeling what it's like to lose their PvE crowd in China because the game is too casual now. I lived off world pvp in WoW, ganking players doing their dailies at Tol Barad for hours. This game sadly isn't built for pvp and it will always lack the world pvp I want so desperately. PvP balance in this game is a joke and while I did grind to 40 while getting my FL mount, it wasn't very enjoyable. Sometimes you just want to turn around and murder the idiot on your team. It will be forever carebear, so all you can do is put up or leave.

Good for WoW, but as you seen here. PvP sucks balls in this game.
Frontlines was fun for a while, but they coulda done how TERA has done Corsair Stronghold, where you actually have to think, scan the enemies area at times, uses airships, ninja their crystal thing, cannons, sieges, suicide bombs
and other fun stuff, not a mindless zerg. Open PvP is more fun there because of special crystals and you can mix and match your stuff however you like...and well it's combat system is way more fun.
I'm not a big PvP fan but I'm just comparing...This game doesn't feel like it'll be cut out for any good PvP.
While I do want Blitzball, SE can't make good content like that without it being watered down caveman exposition
and it'll be just bad...like how they did my housing /cough.
