this is exactly my issue - there is an assumption in these dungeons that the reason Im doing stuff is to just be a dick .. or that Im an idiot or something. I never play as healer or tank ... tbh I wouldn't know how to decided to pick that as an option in the first place .. I just click the duty finder and select a dungeon - so far its mainly been the ones chucked up by the main storyline. and Ive tried to go with the flow. last night I thought we were doing well - then someone said "why don't you have any jewelry? ... why aint you a bard???" then some other abuse about me being the worse bard ever.... its frustrating when Its not something I intentionally meant to do.

Don’t worry too much about what other people are calling you. Some people are eager to jump to conclusions and do not take into account that you are in fact new to the game.this is exactly my issue - there is an assumption in these dungeons that the reason Im doing stuff is to just be a dick .. or that Im an idiot or something.
What you would like to know is this:
When a class reaches level 30, you can unlock an additional feature to class, called a “Job”. In order to unlock the assigned Job for your class (in your case, that would be the Bard), you will have to finish the Class quests you can get at the Archers guild in New Gridania. When you’ve finished those, you will get a referral quest which will guide you to the Bard in South Shroud.
He will offer you a quest to unlock the Archer class, for which you need to fulfill certain requirements. You will need to have Archer at Level 30, Pugilist at Level 15 and completed the “The One that Got Away” Archer Class Quest.
You can unlock the Pugilist Class in Ul’dah at the Pugilist Guild in the Steps of Nald, across the street from the Ul’dahn Grand Company & Aetheryte.
Next to that, every class/job has a handful of additional skill slots available in which you can assign certain skills from other classes. There are skills available for the Bard Job which will improve your damage output and/or survivability, so it’s wise to level up more classes (for the Bard it would be the Pugilist and the Lancer) so that you will have access to these additional skills (Like: Invigorate, Blood for Blood and Internal Release).
In regards to gear, it’s like other before me have mentioned, if you look at the character window, it’s divided into 2 sections. The Left side is contains the slots for your Weapon, Head gear, Body piece, Hands, Belt, Legs and Feet. The Right side contains the slots for Off hand equipment (Like the Paladin’s Shield), Neck piece, Earrings, Bracelets and 2 seperate slots for rings. The Archer does not use an Off hand item, so that slot is left empty.
You would like to keep the equipment in those slots as up to date as possible. You can buy gear at the vendors in each level area. For you, that would be either in the camps of Coerthas or Mor Dhona.
Your best bet is to look for gear that drops in dungeons. Since those items tend to have better stats then the gear you can buy at the vendors.
My advice would be to keep doing the Dzemel Darkhold dungeon to gear up a little bit. But, since you are level 45, a better option would be to unlock your Bard Job and do their Job quests. There are 2 Job Quests where you will get Job specific gear for Level 45 and 50. This will help you out quite a bit.
