You can't say "DRK is a tank" when the minimum required to tank is a Relic Weapon.
IF dark knight gets introduced anytime in the near future it will be a tank (in my opinion), because this game already has 2 melee DPS and a 3rd on the way. For this reason I don't think we will be seeing DRK soon, because it ought to fall into the DPS role.
I don't always pug, but when i do, it's with Pretty Ugly Guys

While this may be true, I have a feeling that SE will probably release 2 dps jobs for every healer and tank job released just based on the class/job and party setup they have. So based on this I feel that they will either release one more dps before the expansion or one of each role with the expansion.

The usual party setup means we need as many DPS as tanks and healers combined. While this may be true, I have a feeling that SE will probably release 2 dps jobs for every healer and tank job released just based on the class/job and party setup they have. Now, we have 2 tanks, 2 healers...and 5 (Soon 6) DPS. To keep the balance we need more tanks and/or healers.
And Yoshida confirmed that we'll see no new job between 2.4 and the expansion.

Based on what Yoshida has said, we should be getting a new tank and healer with the expansion which would put it at 3 tanks / 3 healers / 6 dps, which is equal.
So, 2.4 (2 tank/2 heal/ 6 dps), 3.0 (3 tank/ 3 heal/ 7 dps), 3.5 (3 tank/ 3 heal/ 8 dps), 4.0 (4 tank/ 4 heal/ 9 dps), etc. was the approximate release pattern that I was guessing at based on the class release pattern from 2.0 to 3.0, assuming they keep the one lead on number of dps classes that they currently have.
Otherwise it will most likely be something along the lines of 2.4 (2 tank/2 heal/ 6 dps), 3.0 (3 tank/ 3 heal/ 6 dps), 3.5 (3 tank/ 3 heal/ 7 dps), 4.0 (4 tank/ 4 heal/ 8 dps), etc.

why not a buster sword tank who could add materia specific to his role. then say hes mt he could have maybe a vitality materia but it acts differently. say it gives 3 vit, instead if its attached to the sword it gives 3 vit minus on attacks. or they could just make a materia for it that could gives hims specific defensive spells. then if he wanted to be dps he could have a different sword that has spell materias so he could attack. in 7 they had the enemy skill materia too, they could make something like that where he could add buffs or spells they know to a materia then add it to the sword so it would make a whole nother path hed have to take to be good

Novus is enough to make the prices skyrocket, we can't have a job where materia are mandatory.
DRK/NIN with haste cap was by far the most effective tank for Fafnir/Nidhogg atleast, aswell as King Vinegarroon, Dark Ixion (when he came) ect ect ect, but it requierd some skill
However, it was never "intended" as a tank. NIN wasn't eighter, at first (speaking of XI here)
And the true intended tank PLD wasn't very good at its job. WAR was a very good tank however.
DRK was also the best tank at Khimera,Cerberus, and Tiamat especially if the DRK was skilled enough to be in the stun rotation.
This thread makes me want to resub for a month lol.
