However, it was never "intended" as a tank. NIN wasn't eighter, at first (speaking of XI here)

And the true intended tank PLD wasn't very good at its job. WAR was a very good tank however.
DRK was also the best tank at Khimera,Cerberus, and Tiamat especially if the DRK was skilled enough to be in the stun rotation.
This thread makes me want to resub for a month lol.

Dark Knight is a DPS. There are plenty of established tank jobs in the franchise to pick from if they want to add another one.

Just to throw around as a thought, while dark Knight got alot of attention in 11, It's been an FF staple since as early as Final Fantasy 2 (Leon), and Most Notable Dark Knight from 4, Cecil. They have always used a sword and shield in the olden days, and as it stands the current sword/shield combo is a tank, so its a very real possibility Dark Knight could become a tank class. 11 made dark Knights into a dps class, so please don't solidify them into it. they "could" very easily swing both ways, and personally I'd love it if they made Dark Knight a Pure "Blood/Lifesteal" tank. Much more lifesteal abilitys than the current warrior layout.
On an addendum to this post, why not Rune Fencer? When can I have a more Magic Defence Tank for content that does purely magic damage (Stares at Ramuh).

Sword & Shield is not "a tank", it's Gladiator's arm.
The only thing you could say is that its a very real possibility that Dark Knight could evolve from Gladiator.
And it'd be useless to give another Tank job to Gladiator that would have 15 skills shared with PLD.

Honestly, I'd be extremely upset if they introduced Drk as a tank, it's always pretty much been a DPS class.
But I am pretty excited to look badass with a scythe!! Hell yeah!
I really like scythes >.<
MEGA CUTENESS ATTACK! SUPER EFFECTIVE!
