QFT.
Because if I wanted to play FFXI, I'd play FFXI (considering how unimpressde I was with the game the first time around, that's not going to happen). I'd rather they go with fixing their original vision instead of playing up to the FFXI refugees who want FFXI with prettier graphics.
If I wanted to see an XI zone, I'd go play XI.
I want zones as well designed, alive, and memorable as FFXI's. Not direct imports of XI's. I wouldn't say no to a real desert like XI had, though.
All I can say to people who say things along these lines is....

The FF series has lots and lots of background right?...
It was just a RPG for many years - at the same time literally creating hundreds of series staples for itself.
Most FFXI players who enjoyed that game and reference it a lot are usually asking for what ever theme/feeling they got right with XI to be added to XIV - something the series has always done well.
The fact XI was FFs first fore-ray into the MMO genre, means its pretty obvious and correct to reference it as and when one can concerning XIVs issues.
Stop simplifying things, thank you.

Exactly. You realize that. I realize that. Others realize that. It's a pretty obvious thing to figure out.XIV could have been so much more if they didn't stray from the basic formula of what XI worked, and a topic like this isn't really a suggestion topic, but to spark only nostalgia but to hopefully give the developers an idea of what people enjoyed in terms of Atmosphere an d design.
However, it seems there are some around here who see anything referencing FFXI as "OMG they want SE to remake FFXI!!!". Then again, some people really don't bother to read very carefully.
Personally, I find it far more "disturbing" that someone actually requested "free running" style gameplay like in Assassin's Creed for FFXIV. It's mentioned in a reply from Bayohne in a thread about swimming and underwater content, etc. It just seems to me that there are some people out there who seem to want FFXIV to be a cornucopia of "cool things" they liked in other games.
At least requesting some influence from FFXI is sticking to a game with a similar heritage.
She dislikes XI, so it's useless explaining it to people like her. It's pretty obvious this topic isn't a request topic and when someone does reference XI they're generally talking about the basics since the basics XI used were basics found in not only MMOs but other FF games. It's sad, but honestly, when you make your previous Final Fantasy: Online encompass elements of older FF games, then make your next stray far away from it as possible but still make it a numbered entry, you did something wrong. All I can say to people who say things along these lines is....

Guess who also agrees that something went wrong with the original direction? Yep, the dev team, or did we selectively not read the interview? So it is pointless to explain what's obvious when someone clearly dislikes XI and everything about it yet hope that XIV survives.
I also lol'd at the "FFXI refugees", you do realize, those of you who dislike XI and everything about it, the game you hope stays "original" you're playing characters from XI with near background lore, yes?
I like XIV and hope it go on and becomes something great, but let's be real here people:
If it's ok to suggest stuff from WoW or Rift or TERA because it's "standards" it's perfectly ok to suggest stuff even if it's about the atmosphere from an MMORPG by the SAME company.

hmm... "Sea", complete with the lovable 'UFO's'
Bibiki and Purgonorgo.
There were lots of rites of passage. Dunes, Qufim, Promyvion Dem, Mea, Hola. All memorable in their own way but all a necessity. That's what I find lacking in current MMOs. You don't really have to complete anything other that getting "Keyed" for things. I just remember the excitement when I finally got access to Lufaise or hell, even Khazam let alone Sky and Sea. In the end that's all I want from XIV, that same feeling of accomplishment and something bigger than I am.
Honestly it's all about content, story telling and character development. All of which could have been changed without a complete redesign of functional core elements. By this I mean combat, auction house, leveling system. The graphics are not that good, at least not yet. XI's graphics were fine and still trump most MMOs. So yeah, I want tweaked FFXI mechanics with new content and story.

It's not simplifying. Some of us are just so tired of having to wade through post glorifying FFXI. Try finding a single thread in this forum with over 100 replies that doesn't have multiple FFXI references everywhere. Taking staples from the series is fine. I'll be more than happy to have Cid tune up my airship when they're implemented. But calling for complete remakes of FFXI zones is just absurd. The genre is moving forward, but FF isn't going to if they have to resort to rehashing the same material over and over. All I can say to people who say things along these lines is....

I'm pretty sure (at least I hope) everyone realizes that SE isn't going to recreate a carbon-copy of any zone from FFXI in XIV. The OP sets it out as a question of possibility, but I doubt even they think it would happen. It's not simplifying. Some of us are just so tired of having to wade through post glorifying FFXI. The discussion has pretty much turned to one of "what zones in FFXI would you like the "feel" of to be recreated in XIV?", as that's a more realistic expectation.
At the end of the day... It's a discussion. Relax.
Also, it seems a bit disingenuous for you to complain about "having to wade through posts glorifying FFXI", when the title of this particular thread made it very clear what it was about - with FFXI right in the subject. Yet, you clicked on the link to read it anyway. Further still, you've participated in the thread up to the 13th page.
If it bothers you so much to see people, heaven forbid, showing appreciation or nostalgia for a game that has apparently played a significant role in their lives... then don't read them. Skip over them. Read something else. Or just learn to accept it and stop making a tidal wave out of a tidal pool.
