We had two rites of passage in XI.

First was Valkurm. Everyone's very first foray into group play. If you couldn't hack it there, you weren't gonna get past it. Pretty sure that the vast majority of the players who hated the game quit at Valkurm.

Next was Qufim. That place was a rite of passage if I ever did see one. It was a major stepping stone to get to the level of obtaining an advanced job. It's where static parties were made. And most of those who were not fortunate enough to find statics either sat in Jueno for hours on end or quit altogether.

The rest of the game was smooth sailing.
