Since order seems to be the deciding factor, what order did you feed your chocobo to get apple green?First feeding 25 x Mamook Pear 5 x Doman Plums 5 x Cieldalaes Pineapple turned into Apple Green
Second feeding 10 x Mamook Pear 5 x Xelphatol Apple x 5 O'ghomoro Berries
Got the message of him growing new feathers on first Pear and last Berry
Will post results in 5 hours time ~♪
Not true... when you use only one fruit you hit a cap where you no longer get this message. This shows that there are levels and a cap for each fruit. People just need to document this but they are so fixated on that damn spreadsheet no one seems to be listening.
Right, and there's a cap of 255 and 0, and of course there could be a a cap on how many times you can feed your chocobo during the 6h wait time, but this doesn't break my theory about the messages.
Chocobo Dye Experimentation Thread
I created a new thread for controlled experiments to find out exactly how the fruits work. I'd to make this a very organized set of experiments, instead of just people throwing fruit at the birds. If you're interested, I'd love to have some help.
First off, wanted to say this thread has been both a blessing and a curse to my curiosity!! Congrats to everyone who got their colors, and good luck to everyone else who's shooting for different ones!
I just wanted to post that I'm running a few tests at the moment; since everyone seems to have posted everything in batches of 20-30+ fruits/berries in a single 6 hour period. This is not how my experience has been, but, I figure I'll try it the other way and see where it goes.
Originally I was gunning after Soot Black, before this thread really took off.
1st 6hr Period // Stable: Fair
Fed 1xDoman Plum, did not receive any message of "... growing new feathers!"
Waited.
2nd 6hr Period // Stable: Good
Fed 3xValfruit, received message of "... growing new feathers!"
Chocobo ended up being Salmon Pink!
3rd 6hr Period // Stable : Good
Fed 1xPineapple (received message), 1xValfruit (received message), and 9xDoman Plum (received message).
Chocobo ended up being Bone White!
I'm going to toss some of the lightening fruits at him again, see if I can get soot black, as that is my goal. I don't have screenshots, as I wasn't thinking of them at the time. (Far more consumed on trying to get the actual color than I was of recording data. I am however recording data like crazy.)
Few of my FC mates used formulas on this thread to achieve their colors, so I'm assuming that they're just as lucky or the formulas work when starting from a non-dyed bird. (I don't think stable cleanliness has anything to do with this, but I recorded it for the sake of information.)

Hello all,
I have a Ceruleum Blue choco. It's almost black. I've had a few requests ask how I got the elusive black choco, lol. I haven't the foggiest idea of how to screenshot it as I am on PS4, but if anyone on Hyperion wants to, just hit me up in-game. I used 23 berries, 11 pears, 9 apples, all in one session. I got the changing feathers message almost constantly and I rotated what I used. I generally used 2-3 berries for every pear or apple used.
Read the fruit(s) description again.
Like a lot of people, you're mistaking "deepen" for "darken", which are absolutly not the same thing.
In this context, "deepen" means "reinforce", while "lighten" means "weaken".
So, feeding your chocobo with more and more pears should make it more and more green.
I just feed my choco, if the values on my theory are partially right i should get Snow white.
Sorry, but this does not seem to be the case since some have fed their birds a certain number of just one fruit and gotten drastically different results:
Copy Paste over from R&D:
There's no reason for the the two people who reported getting Raptor Blue and Othard Blue from 21 O'Ghomoro Berries to lie. So some form of RNG is definitely involved. It's interesting to note that three people who reported in after 12 and 11 O'Ghomoro Berry feeds got Goobbue Grey, Gobbiebag Brown and Lilac Purple respectively. If you include the Shale Brown from my first session it would seem that just feeding a couple of Berries alone brings the color down the light grey/brown scale, if there is one.
