Can you confirm/deny the reports that a high perception value will make it harder to catch a Big Fish?

The rumor is that if you have a high perception value the big fish you wish to catch will have a greater chance to get away if it was HQ and won't default to just catching a NQ instead.

It sort of makes sense when you think about it, but it's definitely not something I'd like to be true, lol.

You just have to play with your gear. I started to get "fish got away" way too often after upgrading gear but then just put another +1 to both gathering and perception that instantly fixed the issue with big fish getting away.

Here is some general fishing related information I’d like to share with you:


As this would directly affect the difficulty of Big Fishing, we do not have any plans to make adjustments like this at the moment.


While the time period hasn’t been finalized, we are actually looking into this!


As this would complicate the fishing mechanics we do not have any plans to address this at the moment.
However, we understand that players would like to select a fishing spot without worrying about fishing up maps, so we will be looking into ideas for this, but we can’t make any promises.


We can’t say a specific time period at the moment, but we are looking into making it so you can select from various colors.

New Excel file uploaded 8/17/14 - 2000 hours - All La Noscean fish have been updated using all sources available. Note that the Gathering Rate is still subject to change in many cases. I will be updating the Shroud tomorrow, Thanalan on Tuesday, and Coerthas / Mor Dhana on Wednesday.

I love how he addresses all of the crap that doesn't matter.
Really STORE mooches? Your nuts for even thinking they would consider it.
Fishing related furniture? DUH! Of course it's otw...
Release Maps? OMG cause making gil is such a pain in the butt, and that one map you fish up every 18 hours is something that need to be 'released'...
Different color cast light? Yup totally a major problem with fishing...

How about why fishers with endgame gear get increasing worse performance?
How about solving the inventory space problem of bait with a seperate inventory tied to a offhand tool (with or without stats)...
How about increasing the drop rate of clear demimateria cause I don't need X,XXX,XXX fine sand from desynthing fish, and let's face it... fish don't sell all that well anymore...

Seriously! I about laid a golden brick seeing a dev reply on this thread and I come to see and it's... Not even stuff that really freakin' matters! I want to say so many things that would be censored. Way to drop the ball. Fish furnishings and they aren't even trophy mounts or aquarium related. Saving moochable fish.......CASTING LIGHT CHANGES?

This is what happened last time too though. After months of pleading and whining, we finally get a dev response. Of all the important things they could have chosen, they came in to say, "By the way, we hear all your problems, so here it is! We'll be adding a cast light to your rods! You're welcome!"

Has anyone here successfully caught Floating Boulder in Overcast weather? It's one of my last 4 fish and I've never ever had a nibble in cloudy weather over the course of many many attempts now. Perhaps it is just fog?
