Joined Story Roulette, got a group with 3 new people on Praetorium.

The idiots in the dungeon just doing it for the myth reward ran ahead, disregarding the new people and not bothering to answer questions as to why specific things were being done. I had to shepherd them along, and we got locked out of the Iron Giant boss because of this. The new people asked the group to let them watch cutscenes before bosses, but only one replied saying they didn't care and they only wanted their myth reward.

The group then voted to kick me and the majority won, so I was tossed out. I hit up Duty Finder in progress, and ended up in the same Praetorium. I found the 3 new people at the Magitek Armour, lost as to how you get into it, so I took them back down the lift and showed them.

By the time I got them in their suits and walked them to the cermet door, we'd been locked out of the Nero fight. I was then kicked again.

tl;dr Stop the skipping of cutscenes in Story Roulette.

I'm not saying you have to deal with it, but you sort of do. You are getting paired up with 7 other people with their own motives. When you join say you are new, and if they can do a full clear or let you watch cutscenes. Only massive dicks will be in that big of a hurry that they can't let you watch them. If they won't ask to be vote dismissed so you don't incur timers, requeue and try again. Other options are PF or asking your FC. Don't need a full party just the majority. Then you can be in control.

As far as SR in low level dungeons, its usually a matter of asking. Some lowbies they are just in there because they need it for a quest and could give less of a shit. They just want to get it done, so they can continue on with the story or whatever. Some are running for the XP, others gear. If no one specifically makes a request of me, I will skip what I can. If I see someone is new to that dungeon, I will ask them how they would like to proceed and let the group majority decide.

If you want fast runs why would you queue for story or low level roulette...? Seriously, those things are massive time sinks unless you happen to get lucky and nab Ifrit NM or Titan NM with a good healer (Garuda just flat out sucks).

I only queue up for those when I'm bored and have loads of time because it's so obviously not worth it. Good luck dealing with everyone who will be leveling ninja and wanting full clears lol.

Player A probably wants to kill everything and get the chests. Player B just wants to get to the end. I'd regard both as equally "legitimate" and worth respecting.
Yes, both are legitimate goals. But one style of completing the dungeon fulfills both of them, while another only fulfills one. Whenever you've got a mix of players with different goals, you need to go for the run that meets all their needs.

No it doesn't. You only get the completion bonus once, and going faster doesn't get any more of it. The difference in EXP/HR lies solely in how much of that hour your grinding is taking place in the dungeon versus how much is taking place while you're not in the dungeon, and the EXP levels are nowhere near the same. While on Roulette, you can get more XP from a level 15 mob in Sastasha that dies in a couple seconds (and is surrounded by several others that go down just as fast) than you can from a level 38 mob in the open world that takes a couple minutes to reach and then kill. (Based on a class in the mid 30's, which was the last time I actually compared them, but it seems to hold true pretty consistently at all levels.) Dungeon XP > Open-world XP. Nobody looking for XP should be willing to forego any part of the dungeon in order to get back to the open world content quicker. That's just giving up lots of fast XP for a lesser amount of much slower XP.

I avoid doing roulette because of such things given I am on my first character since RR I need to watch the cutscene's for the story and I want to learn how you do them properly too which does not happen much I have found since people just rush right through and don't explain anything about what to expect from the fights more often than not.

Thankfully so far everyone has allowed me to finish watch the scenes before big fights though one time was close call as they did not wait but the scene finished in time but I have had to make the point since I am new on more than one occasion that I don't know any tactics when entering dungeon I have never been in. I think it is on me to say I need explanations of tactics but I don't think I should be forced to ask if mind me watching the scenes so I think the former is on the new player to ask if no-one is offering the information and the latter is on the non-new players to be patient.

I have noticed I gain little exp from doing instances though as every one I been in people rush through them and I gain not a single level normally from any so far individually which has led me to require doing generic quests for exp just to keep up with story quest level requirements or grinding mobs for hunting quests for example to finish off gaining a level between each main quest.

Us new players do not know that the goblin drops bombs under our feet in brayflox longstop for example or that we are not supposed to attack the giant blob until in tiny blobs in another instance so would be nice if people would give out tactics more often to new players when message pops up at start telling them the run has new players which is their first time there.

Everyone I have met so far has been very friendly but not very many have been helpful if you know what I mean by that in regards to understanding how the fights and exploration of dungeons goes. Having said that, I am very glad everyone I met so far in game is very friendly even if not always helpful.

Having recently resubbed after a break, and luring a friend of mine into playing the game with me, I decided to level a GLA. Since I already have a WHM it'd be a fast transition into a PLD once I hit 30. The fun thing is that I couldn't remember a dang thing about the low-level dungeons, and my friend's a newbie like said, so we've ended up basically always doing full clears - both for my sake and for my friend's sake (he's a BRD though).

We've been quite fortunate so far, even with synced level 50s no one has really complained about taking the long way around - most people just tend to go with the flow/wherever the tank goes. I'm dreading the last story dungeons though, will probably have to make our own parties for those so my friend won't have the same experience I had.

It's probably different for me since I'm running the dungeons on a pre-50, but I agree with what Niwashi said: "Whenever you've got a mix of players with different goals, you need to go for the run that meets all their needs." I feel the same if I'm running lower level dungeons on my WHM, I don't mind doing it all. I prefer new players/first-timers to experience the whole of it.

When I go into a lower dungeon, I expect some people to be new. I ask if they have any preferences in how it should be run. If someone is a new healer, tank or dps it might be faster to just take it slow because many are not quite adept at a speed run yet. I do these when I have extra time or just bored. When I first started the game, I got to watch all the CS's because everyone else was new too. I go in expecting that, but ask if people want otherwise. It saves frustration and meaningless fights down the road. Plus, usually gets people talking if they realize that the guy in i100+ gear is not going to ruin their experience.

Personally, I love to mentor people, I get great satisfaction from it when someone is appreciative. However, this is depending on my mood mostly and my patience at the time.

I think it was around patch 2.2 that they increased the exp you get from dungeons, so it IS a viable option to level up. I suggest what many people here suggest, speak up if you want to do a full clear. I avoid all roulettes for that option, I hate full clears and only do low lvls if I'm forced to. If you want to go the cutscene route, make a party, stop complaining. They have party finder for that reason. If you can't get any of that, watch the cutscenes in the Inns, apparently people don't know about it, but there's a book there you can watch almost all the previous cutscenes. Check it out. There are always going to be mean people in and out of the game, deal with it, don't let it get you down, and enjoy your game the way you want to enjoy it. Sometimes you'll be forced into a different pace, deal with it. When you can get a crew that wants to run at your pace, the other person will have to deal with it too, it's part of the game that has you playing with millions of other people.

I'm guilty of doing this as a tank, but if no one wants to speak up and say they want the side rooms than I'm not going to bother.
Of course if someone wants that's fine, but if no one makes themselves clear it's choo-choo to finish line.

I was on a Haukke Manor run just the other day in which two of the four of us explicitly asked to do all the side rooms because we needed the XP (and the other two didn't say anything about it one way or the other, so I'm not sure what the other DPS wanted) but the tank just ran ahead to the final boss, skipping nearly all of the optional areas. That's just selfish and rude.
