Achievement Points: Give them a purpose

[Snip] I've often wondered why achievements earn points but we can't use the points for anything.

I get the whole "achievements are achievements" thing, but why bother attaching a number to them if the number's not going to do anything? No one other than you can even see the number. Why not put the number to use or get rid of it entirely?

I've wondered the exact same thing since they were implemented. Different achievements have different "values" points wise (some are 5, some are 20); surely that will mean something, right? Apparently not o.O
