    Doesn't really matter. Could be anything; gear, crafting materials, or some new mechanic to the game like Felis' suggestion (though...maybe not for coil please!), but whatever it is if its in the open world ,and its worthwhile, there needs to be some challenge to beat to access it. Classically, that's monsters.

    Could be anything. Rare crafting components for new high-level recipes, special dropped items for a new character improvement mechanic... or hell, just the fun of kicking the stuffing out of a monster 20 levels higher than you. Especially if there's lots of 'em. Lookin' at you, Castrum Novus.

    Well it has to matter otherwise it wouldn't be worthwhile, would it? You need to give players an incentive to risk their lives wandering in the world. But you also have to avoid the problem of making the open world content being more favorable than the other content, just like what the hunts did wrong.

    Hunt is the exact example why there need to be stronger enemies in the open world that you can't kill in 5 seconds with a full party.

    :P My statement was a principle, not detailed blueprint. Like saying "A house has to have a foundation". But you're right, obviously what drops would be important, but what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter in what way it is worthwhile. Only that if worthwhile things (whatever form they may take) are to be added, they have to be from equally worthwhile (difficult) content.

    So for worthwhile things to drop in the overworld, difficult monsters have to be found there.

    OP, sorry for derailing you're thread ._. I do wholeheartedly agree that the heavy status is frustrating and I would like to see it removed.
