    SE needs to remove or drastically reduce the gear treadmill. fast content releases is good, fast negation is very bad.

    My views on XIV is the game is designed purly on throwaway content and vanity (0 character progression) content. There is nothing you work for that improves you for the long term. Everything is designed around a 3-6month cycle and that needs to stop. Ilvl should be removed in its entirety it is just extremely limiting because it shoves everything into a vertical progression cycle. Gear cannot last long because you cannot have a extremely rare lvl 20 Ilvl150 piece which is good to endgame because it screws up the Ilvl lockouts. I just forces all increases to negate everything.

    Aka Patch 2.4 will negate all of 2.2 and 2.3 if it follows the SE progression model. Which to me is a horrible way to add new content. All content should have something in it that makes it last at least 1-2yrs min.

    That's like picking between winning the lottery and working for the rest of your life, why work for the rest of your life when you can have all the money you need? This game makes content useless too fast. There needs to be a lot more horizontal progression than vertical.

    Have to agree with everything in this post even the stuff I snipped, really upsetting all the primals are useless in 3 months.

    If I had to describe it in a word it would be schizophrenic. I feel like there are a lot of little incongruities between how the game felt at 2.0 and how the game feels now at 2.3. Somewhere around 2.2 I feel like there was a tonal shift, and the highly streamlined game with a point to prove and a bounce in its step became mired in pointless grind for the sake of grind. It feels at odds with how throwaway a lot of content in the game feels.

    On one hand I can be any job I want at any time I want with relatively little hassle, gather and craft with relative ease to be self-sufficient and easily move in and out of content with friends whenever we feel like doing something. The initial 1-50 process is fairly intelligent and a good tool to bring veterans and novices to the same page and get everyone playing together quickly. On the other hand I feel like someone decided that we needed a bit more interdependence and quite a few more timesinks so a lot of highly RNG-dependent grinds were introduced for content that I don't quite think needed it.

    Obviously I need to be chasing the carrot on the stick or I won't continue to subscribe. I'm not debating that, and I'm willingly subjecting myself to it by being here. For now I'm going to continue staking my claim in content with a bit more permanence to it, such as housing and vanity and minion/mount hunting. Sometimes it does make me wonder however how things are going to look maybe 3 years from now or more. I guess only time will tell.

    I don't like it. It's becoming farmfest/grindfest MMO like the other games I hate.

    and the new content they keep making instant kill mechanics.

    exept weishan all the change of the 2.2-2.3 have come mostly for please player oldschool, grind and long term goal. they are content directly taken from old game.
    i think they have gone wrong with the 2.2-2.3, instead to offer challenge and multiple activity, they have try to follow a simple design raid+dungeon+smal anexe activity. but that soo wrong. we need more than this, dungeon and raid are nice, but must'nt be the only activity with a good progression.

    one more point, the vertical progression they are doing it's bad, really really bad. the speed it's too fast, with the 2.4 we will probably see the i130 gears. when our max level is 50 almost 3 times our level... that not normal that way too much! they need to slow down the gears evolution, they need to offer content that will be of the same difficulty with different reward. a bit of horizontal progression is needed...

    ps: i seriously hope the 2.4 will be different of the 2.2-2.3, we need to get balance between grind and fast reward... and more important... please, pretty please give us stuff fun to do! and true challenge, if i want to play DDR, i will go play DDR... not ff14

    Definitely agree. Recently came back from 6 month break, Got ilvl90 gear and then started on soldiery tome grind but realized that a) since I don't do any of the hard fights, I don't need it and b) the soldiery gear will almost inevitably be much easier to get when new gear is released so why grind on it now?

    So all I am doing now is gathering and saving money for personal housing and golden saucer hoping that will be all I hope for.

    No, they are not same.all contents were poorly implemented or watered down in ARR

    1.AF quests in 1.23 were group content. (they are like the first relic(ilv80) quests in ARR,very good quests)
    2.You can't mindless zerg in 1.23.
    3.NMs was using the "claim system",they were tough fights. not "hit it few times and let random people kill it for you".
    4.There were no DF,so you have to create your own party.be nice,and be helpful.
    5.Behest/Hamlet Defense/skimish/faction leves were much better designed than FATE/ATMA/NOVUS/

    and many more.......

    - af quest was a group quest true, but the relic quest was a grind too
    - NM was tune down a lot in the 1.23, with the 10 minutes repop, not the 30 minute to 48 hours we did get it's true, but it was said while the beta that the nm will never come back (i did it take it like an insult to all the player that have fight for take out this outdated content of the game
    - they aren't the same content at all, you can't compare behest/hamlet/skirmish with the FATE/ATMA/NOVUS...

    the trouble is not what it's different but what it's the same, the grind for the grind it's pointless and must be avoid. we are in 2014, don't tell me we can't offer challenge that have high replayability when game like left 4 dead can do it, no?
