This FF installment reinvented the wheel and turned it into a square that puts a bullet through your legs every time it lands on one of its faces.Wait, really? Have you played other Final Fantasy games? This is one of the attractions of Final Fantasy. Each one does pretty much "reinvent the wheel". A few themes are common between games such as chocobos and job types but each Final Fantasy gives SE the chance to release a new battle system, a new world, etc.
If you loved the FFXI world so much, then you should probably go back to it. This being a new instalment in Final Fantasy means things will be different. This doesn't mean FFXIV needs to stay as it is now, but it gives us the chance to explore something new.
I'm fine with Coerthas, but Black Shroud I can see that it needs to be changed up. Real forests really are labrynthy and you see a LOT of the same things over and over again (which is why you never walk off the trail in a forest. Very easy to get lost.)
But considering it's the same block section over and over again... It's a little to much. Some parts of Black Shroud should remain labrynth like, but not the whole place.
Guys I really can't see how this is a good news °-° I'm not a huge fan of Gridania as well, but do you know how much time it takes to reinvent a whole map? that's basically everything they did in the years of development... when are we gonna play the finished game, in 2030? °-°
He didn't say anything like that. People are just getting their hopes up based on rumors.
It would kick all kinds of ass if it was true though.
I don't think it would be quite as hard as you're implying. And I don't think a major portion of the time it took to design the game went into the zones themselves. They aren't created point by point. The entire base system of the game is designed like a basic machine. You pump numbers into it, and it controls them for you in the way it was designed.Guys I really can't see how this is a good news °-° I'm not a huge fan of Gridania as well, but do you know how much time it takes to reinvent a whole map? that's basically everything they did in the years of development... when are we gonna play the finished game, in 2030? °-°
I took a 3d programming class a few years ago, and we did a project where we created a 3d landscape. In my own experience I would say changing 1 zone alone, like the black shroud, could be done by a team of experienced people in less than a month easily, possibly even less than a week.
I took a class of 3d graphic too and it was definitely a hard and long work, but it was about interiors, not landscapes, so I really hope you're right.I don't think it would be quite as hard as you're implying. can be easily changed in a week, people pop out massive maps on crysis and unreal with their own custom models very easily and these are unprofessional learners lol. Se have zero excuses to the reason it takes so long other than they're just bad at what they do.
Just a heads up.
Look at the eastern black shroud north of camp nine ivies before they change it, its a pretty unsettling area and worth a look.
edit: Clearly they have some sort of terrain editing tool that makes it a lot easier for them.
You're forgetting that these zones already have content. Every guild leve, quest, story quest, class quest, behest, mob, NM, mining point, botany point etc. would all have to be re-placed to a new location. Even mob redistribution would have to be done manually so that the right rank mobs are in the right areas and that you don't get aggro mobs camping quests or DoL points (then again they already did a terrible job at that in Treespeak with the goblin NM). It would be a bigger challenge for the quests, moving where mobs and DoL points spawn is probably point and click. But it's still a lot of work. I agree it wouldn't take a massive amount of time to redesign the Black Shroud, because they would reuse all of the textures, trees and other objects.
Still waiting for official translation to suggest this is actually happening.
