These quests are not pointless. They appear to be carefully crafted to introduce you to level appropriate areas & show you the geography of the land. It's one of the features of this game that struck me as very well thought out when I first started playing.

Interesting that you have the opposite view...

Have you played any other mmo? Just curious, because every other mmo does the exact same quest design. It's called mmo on rails or I like to call it quest train. It is designed in a way where one quest will lead you to 10 others in a different area. It's probably one of the worst mmo designs in my opinion, because not only do the quests have no real meaning in themselves because there's soo many of them, that they cannot do quality, which I want in a video game I pay monthly for. Another reason is the game tells you where to go and does the exploring for you, there is no sense of wonder, or help from the community.

Like for an example, FFXI. Where the heck do you go when you first level up to level 12. Beginners have NO idea, I sure as heck had no idea what to do. It forces you to use the community knowledge and forces one another to help each other. This design leaves nothing to the imagination, you know what to expect and where it will take you. Hand holding my friend.

That is the opposite of good game design. Telling you where to go is not hand-holding. Telling you how to do something is hand-holding. The ambiguity of FFXI was obnoxious more than it was interesting. I had FFXI Wiki open at all times. Everything already took forever, why make it take longer for no reason?

Also, you couldn't do anything while waiting for a PT, because you had to run to the camp spot. People would get mad if you took too long and look for replacements.

FFXIV, I can wait for a duty, farm atma, look for hunts, level my chocobo, all at the same time. Sure, some of these things are less significant than others, but I'm always doing something. If you are actually sitting and waiting for a DF, you are playing like a nincompoop. You are aware you can change jobs while waiting for PF/DF, right? Yet another you can do while waiting! Level up while waiting! You couldn't do that in FFXI for the above reason. If you were leveling in La Theine outside of a PT, put up your flag, but put in your search comment that you were LFP, no one would give a shit. They knew you had to warp back to the moogle, change jobs, teleport to the necessary zone. Run there. A nearly 30 minute process.

Sorry, I like to multitask. And no, I didn't play during Abyssea. So no to any of that business.

So, you contradict yourself between posts. And these quests of no meaning to you, provide an opportunity for lore, & gil & xp for other jobs...

oh I see... you're trolling us all. Well played.
