I'm reminded of Peter Molyneux(sp) talking about same sex marriage in Fable, he said it was easier to code it that way instead of going in and creating code to prevent it from happening. So what gets me is there was someone (or multiple people) on FFXI that had to go in and make that code before the wedding ceremonies went live. "Ishikawa! I need that if/then variable that stops same sex marriage from happening ASAP before the patch hits or Vana'diel will crumble!"
@ Chezen, see what I mean by level-headed? You posted something which as you stated, is bound to get you crucified, but you did it an a respectful way, voicing your opinion without instigating or antagonizing anyone. Thank you for that. Now a few thoughts...
Japan's low crime rate...they also have the highest suicide rate in the world. All that pressure to behave a certain way is not necessarily a good thing.
On homosexuality being aberrant...I'm a firm believer that is a genetic mutation...but that doesn't mean it's "wrong." We see this behavior throughout the animal kingdom, with dolphins, monkeys, dogs and many other high-functioning mammals. Yes, the status quo is to gravitate toward heterosexuality to propagate the species, but that doesn't mean the people that are born homosexual should be treated as less than equals because they're the minority.
And it is a genetic thing. To paraphrase the philosopher David Cross (mocking the viewpoint that it is a choice) "And it is a choice. Every gay kid sits in their room one day and says:
You know....
nobody likes me at school.....
and I really have a hard time fitting in......
I'm just so awkward.....
and I have no friends.......
but you know?
Maybe there's something else I can do to invite even more criticism in my life?"
Seriously, no one would willingly invite the negative stigmata and stereotyping associated with homosexuality.
