i will admit to not telling others that im new anymore i dont know if i just have bad luck or what but whenever i would go into a dungeon and say im new they would kick me off the party first thing so it made me scared to tell anyone i dont know what im doing

I did not (intent to) directly insult. I was providing perspective.

My usual response to newbies performing poorly in-game is the same response they give me: total silence. I've heard the excuse that PS3/4 players don't say much because typing is a chore, but just... jump up and down if you hear me. Any response is better than knowing I've wasted my time and effort on a brick wall. I can count on one hand the number of times I have been given advice and have it been immediately followed. Advice was not unreasonable either. As simple as helping to clean up their rotation.

You'll get the d-bags now and again. Its just the nature of the beast. This is my first MMO as well and I rolled a gladiator too... Boy did I get a rude awakening! LOL!
I took advice no matter how rude it was, watched videos, and read like I was studying for a college exam! Ive come a long way since then.
What ive started doing is if someone
pops thier mouth off at another party member and gives them a bunch of grief like the OP stated I blacklist them. Theres plenty of more people to pair up with in the DF.
As a matter of fact in Revenants Toll today someone shouted how to start a quest cause they couldnt find the quest giver. The response: "go to system, click exit game, turn off computer and throw it on a 4 lane highway cause you dont need to be playing this game."
They were immediaty blacklisted. Why even say that. Of course the shouter with the question then said "you guys have fun in endgame, im out"

It just makes me really mad sometimes. Sorry for the rant.

I think this is really just the nature of people. You will encounter jerks and you will encounter nice people. If you find that you're encountering the jerks more often, then joining a nice FC that you can do duty finder stuff with, makes it so you won't have to worry about it anymore. I rarely do DF things without my FC nowadays. Also something to note, when you use the duty finder, you are joining up with people from the pool of servers in your data center. So it's not just one server but multiple ones. This greatly increases the amount of players to pull from.

well welcome to the world of FF14... when i 1st started i had not friends that played this game and ws on my own, now i have played some MMO's but only for a a short time then i got board and moved on as i had no friends and no help.... i jumped into this one with the thought ill never pay to play (P2P) but once i got on and was learning i found some frendly people and a really good FC (free company ) that is all about helping there member, and they helped me get to lvl 50 in 3-4 weeks. they have tought me the lingo, and they have TS ( team speak a 3rd party voice chat system ) that helped out alot!!! as i am on a ps3..

now as far so the DF (duty finder) goes i have always made sure to let them know i was new, and if they started to be ugly i just ignored them and went on and go a free ride, but most of the time they helped me out, most they right befor a boss.

if you are having a hard time finding a good FC you can alwasy shout (type of chat) and ask if any one can invite you to a newbe LS (link shell) or when you have to do a dungon use the PF (party finder ) and mark it that your new and looking for friendly people to help you make it through.

if you ever find you self looking to change worlds or make a new person come on over to Goblin and i can help you out and get you in to my FC or one of my good friends ( a friend that i made in game!! ) and we can help you out!!
    good luck in game!!!!

    Hey Welcome to FFXIV!

Yea there can be alot of dillholes online, or people without the patience to help others out. Though there is a fine line between helping and holding ones hand. We are on the same server so if you ever have any questions or are looking for a FC look me up I'd be glad to help you out with anything I can!

It is sad but the nature of it. I myself when i first begin was completely new to mmos but have always and will always treat players with respect except of course for some rage quitters.
Also i do agree that if you mention you are new to a dungeon and such that may help. When taking members of our FC to do end game stuff for instance, i always tell the random players that such and such is new.
Find a Free Company that is new player friendly, have fun and enjoy the game.

The problem is that the unkind people are much louder and more prone to speaking up than the kind ones. I've run into people with nasty attitudes in this game, but I've also run into plenty of helpful and patient people. A good tip is to find a friendly FC as others have said. I'm not familiar with your server, so I don't have any suggestions as to which ones are the best.

Often, mean people will speak up and be nasty to you if you're doing something in a way that they don't consider optimal, but many helpful players won't say anything unless asked. I mean, it's really not our place to tell someone in the early game how to play the game. That's what they're figuring out, and many people like doing that on their own. However, if you ask for advice, you'll find that many people are very willing to give it. Even some of the mean people, because some of them are like that first replier up there - only mean because they expect newer players to react nastily if given advice, because that does happen sometimes.

When you go into a Dungeon or Trial, you might want to tell people that you're new, or that it's the first time you've tried it, or that you've never healed/tanked a dungeon before. There are people who will react negatively to that, but there are more people who will explain the bosses to you, or give tips. When playing any online game these days, you have to learn to ignore the loud and obnoxious people because they're always there. This isn't unique to FFXIV nor to MMOs. It's just how things are on the internet these days, and frankly, how they've always been. Anonymity breeds pettiness and hostility in sufficiently immature people, of which there are plenty.

That and it's not difficult to use google or look around any wiki or forum for the game for about an hour to get semi-acquainted with most terminology.
Why are you even in help newbie forums?
