Which is why it's so aggravating that the majority of people abusing this are the raiders. Most "casuals" don't have the third-party add ons, it's mostly the raiders that were already using them to parse.

Honestly though, I love the hunts. Even against those with an advantage I get a thrill out of finding a mark first. If you go about these as a party activity you can still have a bunch of fun since there are almost always B ranks up somewhere while the big dragnet groups are swarming the As. Those in 150+ member linkshells are almost always disappointed since they only get there as 4 dozen other people arrive, but if you just go about these as a party activity it is still really fun.

I really like the OPs idea more so than mine that he linked to. I really hope that SE do something like this to alleviate the advantage that 3rd party app users have. The hunts and the new dungeons are fantastic, but everything else about this update seems to be a blantant time-sink to keep people subbed up until 2.4(gardening demands&limits/desynthesis/new tools). I don't intent to reward SE by continuing to sub if they can't even out the playing field between PS3/4 and PC users in the one new thing that I really enjoy after they seemed to take any fun out of my crafting gathering(getting slapped with 11 new tools to grind just as I finished the last 11 is a slap in the face).

1.- Remove the myth/sold rewards from marks -----> sends lots of ppl back to dungeons, raids, roulette because they need the currency.
2.- Give Allied Seals as a frontline reward -------> sends lots of ppl to frontline.
3.- Make Oils/Sand not count for the weekly lookout in ST/SCoB -------> send raiders back to raids
3.- Make the daily hunts actually worth something. Around 30 seals a day (15 days to get 1 oil) -----> ppl who dont want the elite hunt drama can still get stuff.

That will spread players more and reduce the rage caused by elites.

Hmmm. I keep hearing that from different people. I guess I can give you some peace of mind by saying that my Static and I are doing hunts for the exact opposite reason. This is the quickest way to gear up for Coil, thus we are taking advantage of it as much as possible

The only part I don't like is sending people back to dungeons. I'm sick of them already, I want alternatives!

Well you can reduce the reward if 0 is too drastic.
As of now, Hunt is one of the faster ways to farm myth and sold too.

You already can get myth/sold from treasure maps, beast dailies (ok small amounts) and now from frontlines too (50myth/25sold for 15-20mins of action)

Maybe I'm taking shortcut, but arent' you basically saying "Remove every reward that makes hunt worthwhile" ? You're right about the part where no hunt abuser will participate...but no people will either, since they won't reward with anything really useful

Actually, he only wants to remove (or reduce) 1 thing. The rest is just buffing other stuff to make it worthwhile as well.

I like his 2, 3, and 3 ideas. Especially the second 3. I like hunts but I'd like it more if I could skip the drama/do it on a smaller scale.

It sort of disappeared from conversation, but I think the OP's original idea would work quite well with a few tweaks. From what I understand the game client is currently fully capable of 'spawning' completely invisible and untargetable enemies. It does so frequently with things like battlecraft guild leves or maps where enemies spawn at a predetermined event (usually hp% of another mob or some other progress). What actually happens with those things is when you begin a leve, for example, the system loads all relevant mobs, chests, etc. but some may not appear until you trigger them.

What they should do is make invisible, untargetable copies of the marks all over the zone, but rather than have them all spawn together (that might actually be more of an advantage since from nearly anywhere in the zone you'd know that a mark spawned somewhere) make them persistent and allow them to slowly wander the entire zone.

To get around this the radar developers would have to find some way of distinguishing between invisible and visible mobs if that's even possible with the information they can mine. Until they did that the radar app would be completely useless because of the overwhelming number of false positives.

I'm not removing any reward...alex/oils/sands are still there for you to buy with allied seals.

What that could do, is spread players more.
You want to have lots of players doing lots of different things, not 75% the server doing just one.

If you can get allied seals from frontlines, everyone who likes to pvp will try to get his oil/sands/alex that way.
If you make sands/oil not count for the weekly ST/SCoB lockout, everyone who loves to raid will go back to raid.
If you reduce the myth/sold reward to something like B = 10myth/3sold A = 25myth/7sold C = 75myth/15sold, everyone that needs the currency will have to go do something else.

After having all that options, each player can evaluate which is the best path for him/her (hunts/pvp/raids/dailies) instead of forcing them all to just go and hunts elites

Open world content needs to have limits in order to not being abused / exploited , i tho SE could have learned something from other mmorpgs that used non-instanced content for endgame.

dont get me started about the "community....how ppl abuse each other , reset pulls , shout that X pulled before (sometimes isnt even true that X pulled ,yet X is blacklisted and kicked from LS's), ppl using radar, pos hack and who knows what...in order to "hunt" faster / better.

FFXIV community wasnt perfect , far from it , but hunts arent helping it, having to turn shout off because ppl are swearing and raging at each other in every zone isnt fun.

in the end the hunt was good idea poorly implemented, and i dont know why SE didnt see that coming....
