10M in 1.x was converted to 100k in 2.0 iirc, so it can easily be argued that it's way more expensive now. Might have been a 10M to 1M, in which case it's around parity.1.0 was a time where even double melds were harsh. You had to use the flunky crafting UI to make a very expensive weapon (some pieces NEEDED to be HQ which was a pain from the get go) then you needed very expensive materia to double meld. First was always 100% but then the second meld dropped to 30% success, which may as well have been 10% success. If you failed, you lose ALL materia AND the weapon you spent so much crafting.
At least on Ragnarok at the time, base weapons were 10 mil, materia was maybe 5m each. This system, even Novus, is so much more tame then it once was. This is not even mentioning FFXI
